CENTRAL NEW YORK – Undefeated in the regular season, boys golf teams at Jamesville-DeWitt and Christian Brothers Academy both managed to maintain that perfection under post-season pressure.
In two different Section III fall tournaments on Tuesday, the Red Rams and Brothers produced victories, with J-D taking the Salt City Athletic Conference Empire division event and CBA doing the same in the Onondaga High School League.
Dominant all season, J-D carried it over on the familiar surroundings of Drumlins Country Club, posting a team total of 390 to finish well clear of runner-up Oswego’s 418 as Auburn finished third with 432.
Only on the individual side did anyone beat the Rams. Trey Jacobson and Jackson Saroney each shot 76, which tied Fulton’s Tanner Emmons for second place but trailed the winning 74 from Auburn’s Carter Mizro.
Right behind them, Mitchell Archer finished alone in fifth place, shooting a 78, while Blaise Anthis tied for sixth place at 79 and Brian Tollar stepped up to share ninth place with an 81.
Those five, along with Sam Ahn, all advanced to play in May’s sectional state qualifying tournament as Ian Delpha got close to that total, finishing with an 80.
East Syracuse Minoa finished fourth with 442, led by Zach Johnson, whose 82 tied for 12th place and secured for Johnson his own spot in the state qualifier.
Just outside that qualifying bubble was the Spartans’ trio of Zach Harmon, Logan Welch and Braedon Smith, each of whom shot 85. Aaron Reynolds posted a 105 and Jayden Raymond added 108.
It was far closer at Rogues Roost in Bridgeport, where Onondaga High School League fall golfers battled for sectional honors and CBA won a close race for the top.
The Brothers finished at 405, just beating out the 409 from Skaneateles and 411 from Westhill as Chittenango and Cazenovia shared fourth place at 417.
With every single shot important, Jack Gregory led CBA with a 73, finishing second among individuals as Homer’s Mitch Riter took individual honors with a 71.
Emmet Kilmartin posted a 78 and tied for ninth place, but it took an 83 from Joe Papa, an 84 from Luke Snyder and 87 from Eric Lee to fend off Skaneateles, who was led by Jack Marquardt’s 78 and Tyson DiRubbo’s 79.
Back at Drumlins,
Luke Weisiger led the Hornets, shooting a 77 to finish alone in sixth place as B’ville had a 1-2 finish from Aiden Motala (70) and Nate MacGregor (71). Will Kettell tied for seventh place, posting a 78.
As Weisger and Kettell advanced to the spring state qualifier, Dan Stark finished with an 82, as did Adam Koss, F-M White’s top golfer.
Anthony Ahn and Parker Kaczorowski both posted 83, with Hugh Roddy shooting 84 and Duncan McDaniel adding an 85. Jack Antshel shot 88 ahead of Tyler Burns (90), Grant Rhyde (91), Cullen Vredenburgh (92) and Charles Lorraine (100).
