ONONDAGA COUNTY – A strong regular season led the Cicero-North Syracuse Blue and Liverpool boys golf teams to Drumlins for Tuesday’s Section III Class AA fall tournament to see who would return for May’s state qualifier.
Liverpool had an exciting match last Tuesday at Foxfire, able to rally past West Genesee’s Gold team by a single shot in a 200-201 decision.
Brady Michaud and Alex Salanger shot 38s to tie for individual honors. Bradley Cole’s 39 equaled WG’s Ben Glass.
Still, it took a 41 from Joe Sacco and 44 from Owen Salanger to hang on since WG had 40s from Max DeMass and Jason Clifton and 41s from Ryan Till, Tyler Anastasio and Jameson Bard.
When C-NS Blue faced WG Gold at Westvale a day later, it was the Wildcats prevailing by a 188-191 margin despite a season-best round of 32 from the Northstars’ Drew Kippen.
Jack Wolanski had a 38, but that trailed a 35 from Till and 37s from Clifton and Glass, and matched a 38 from DeMass. Though Kaeden Hacker (39), Nate Bustin (40) and David Schmidt (42) played well, Anthony Pirro’s 41 helped the Wildcats hang on.
This happened as Liverpool challenged undefeated Baldwinsville at Foxfire, getting close to the Bees, but still taking a 188-196 defeat.
Owen Michaud’s 38 led the Warriors, with Kirkby and Salanger each shooting 39. Cole and Sacco had matching rounds of 40 as, for B’ville, Aiden Motala blazed to a 35 ahead of 38s by Dylan Wirtheim, Brayden Penafeather-Stevenson and Owen Frechette.
C-NS Green, still without a win in 2022, fell 191-210 to West Genesee Blue last Tuesday afternoon at Westvale.
Ethan Matthews and Kyle Kulikowski both shot 39 for the Northstars behind WG’s duo of Will Shields (35) and Jake Elinich 36) as Brady Militello, with a 43, beat out the 44 from Colin Nichols and 45 from Brendon Marchitto.
