ONONDAGA COUNTY – No one in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division this fall has found itself capable of matching the sheer depth and quality of the Baldwinsville boys golf team.
That would get put to the test last Friday at Cavalry Club, when the 10-0 Bees had its rematch with second-place Fayetteville-Manilus, who it had beat 201-210 earlier in the month.
Even on a different course and in cold, windy conditions, B’ville came through, winning by the exact same nine-stroke margin, this time 195-204, to move its record to 11-0.
Nate MacGregor, Billy Shipman, Keegan Lynch, Owen Frechette and Alex Blum came up with the five low scores, averaging under 40, something the Hornets were unable to match.
Before this, the Bees put away F-M White 183-218 last Tuesday afternoon at Woodcrest led by the duo of Frechette and MacGregor.
Frechette’s nine-hole 34 was his best round of the ball, equaling MacGregor’s total as they were followed by Shipman and Aiden Motala, who both shot 38.
Dylan Wertheim’s 39 nearly produced a top-five sweep, with only Parker Kaczorowski managing to equal that score on F-M White’s side. Grant Rhyde and Luke McGinnis both shot 44 for the Hornets.
Then B’ville made it 10-0 by topping Cicero-North Syracuse Blue 195-208 last Wednesday afternoon at Timber Banks, a margin similar to their first meeting on Sept. 2.
MacGregor and Shipman both shot 37, which trailed a 35 from C-NS Blue’s Sean Lawler. But rounds of 40 from Motala and Brayden Penafeather-Stevenson, along with a 41 from Frechette, clinched yet another victory.
Even with the second win over F-M Green, B’ville would still need to win a rematch with F-M White, along with those against Liverpool and West Genesee Gold, this week to complete an undefeated regular season.
