ONONDAGA COUNTY – Each time she takes the pool, Baldwinsville girls swimming senior Eva Smith continues to add to her long and varied resume of accomplishments.
When the Bees hosted Liverpool Tuesday at Baker High School, Smith, already qualified for November’s state championship meet in the 100-yard backstroke, did so again in the 200-yard individual medley.
In a time of two minutes, 11.13 seconds, Smith beat the qualifying standard of 2:12.84 by nearly two seconds and set a new B’ville pool record in that event.
This went with an effort in the 100 backstroke where Smith finished in 58.82 seconds, another new standard.
At the outset, the Bees won the 200 medley relay when Smith, paired with Ava Corey, Mia Rinko and Makenna Williams, got to a time of 2:09.35, beating Liverpool’s 2:12.31.
Liverpool won the team meet 59-35 with wins from several different swimmers, including Sarah Colwell, who was first in the 200 freestyle in 2:09.59 and 500 freestyle in 5:51.11.
Rinko gave the Bees a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle in 1:01.67 behind the 59.36 from Liverpool’s Arianna Kuznia, with Addison Grosso second in the 500 freestyle in 6:13.41.
Two days later, B’ville swam at West Genesee, where Smith came within less than a second of the state qualifying standard in the 100 butterfly, prevailing in 1:00.93 while improving to 58.59 in the 100 backstroke.
In the 200 freestyle, Rinko gained first place in 2:18.25 before she beat the field in the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.96. Paired together in the 200 medley relay, Smith, Rinko, Grosso and Henna Luke won in 2:06.70.
WG won the meet, 101-79, despite Luke finishing second in the 500 freestyle (6:08.32) and 50 freestyle, with Grosso second in the 100 freestyle and Eliza Gramiak second in the 200 IM.
with its deeper lineup, but Smith and the Bees expect to do more this week in meets against Christian Brothers Academy at Le Moyne College and Syracuse City at Nottingham High School.
