ONONDAGA COUNTY – While nothing could compare to the landmark win over Fayetteville-Manlius on Sept. 2, the Baldwinsville girls tennis team knew quite well that every league match counted equally in the standings.
So the Bees didn’t take it lightly when, after some early-week rains, it returned last Wednesday and pulled off a 7-0 shutout of the Henninger Black Knights.
Mira Nadzan, in first singles, won 6-1, 6-0 over Esraa Al Masalmeh, while Alya Kalfass and Ella Clary each got 6-0, 6-0 shutouts over, respectively, Jemima Bobelabi and Shantel Cave.
Wherever it went in doubles, B’ville won quickly. The teams of Elaina Nesbitt-Hannah Gould, Julia Quinn-Reagan Doan, Keagan Downes-Livia Zoanetti and Eva Pawelek-Carly Ann Smith did not lose a single game between them.
A day later, against Cicero-North Syracuse, the Bees won again, giving up a point in doubles, but still controlling matters in the course of a 6-1 victory.
With Kalfass shutting out Madelyn Shaw 6-0, 6-0, Nadzan doing the same to Megan Mieves and Clary roaring past Addyson Fedele 6-1, 6-1, the drama switched to doubles.
Laine Zoanetti and Carmela Budzich lost, 6-4, 6-3, to Lauren Malec and Andrea Iqabi, but Quinn and Doan got a 6-0, 6-0 win over Meghan Obleman and Lily Misco.
Downes, again paired with Livia Zoanetti, worked past Mackenzie Prentice and Kathleen Taru 6-3, 6-4 as Gould and Laine Zoanetti needed a long first set to get in front of Eve Campitello and Golden Duru 7-5, 6-2.
B’ville is set to play twice this week, going to Liverpool and hosting West Genesee.
