BALDWINSVILLE – With strong efforts from the likes of Dom Burris, the West Genesee boys track and field team recorded a third-place finish in Wednesday’s Section III Class AA championships at Baldwinsville’s Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.
The Wildcats finished with 61 points, edging Fayetteville-Manlius (60.5) and just two behind the runner-up total of 63 from Cicero-North Syracuse, though they all were far back of Baldwinsville’s winning total of 168 points.
Burris rose to third place in the 100-meter dash in 11.34 seconds behind B’ville’s Sam Mellinger, who won in 10.92. Kev Scott (11.66) beat out Chris Moser (11.77) for ni nth place. In the long jump, Burris was third, going 20 feet 7 ½ inches.
Bryce Bort’s triple jump of 41’11 1/2” was second to B’ville’ Owen Weaver (42’11 1/4”). In the 4×100 relay, Burris, Moser, Bort and Payton Manipole finished in 43.37 seconds, beating everyone except the Bees, who won in 42.67. Manipole, Moser, Chris Puchta and James Mungro took third in the 4×400 in 3:35.94.
Peter McMahon only ran one distance race, the closing 3,000-meter steeplecahse, and had a time of 9:51.97 for second place, even if B’ville’s Solomon Holden-Betts (9:25.76) was well out in front.
Kevin Moser ran a good 3,200-meter run, getting third place in 10:03.15. Aidan Walsh took fourth in the 1,600-meter run in 4:36.51. In the 200-meter dash, Chris Moser finished fourht in 23.07 seconds, with Scott fifth in 23.13 and Manipole sixth in 23.34.
Francisco Cross made it to fifth place in the pentathlon, earning 2,164 points. Casey Conmy took seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:08.30 as Bryan Reichert was eighth in the 110 high hurdles in 17.90 seconds. Bort was seventh in the high jump, clearing 5’8”.
WG’s girls track team earned 22 points for seventh place in the 10-team Class AA field as C-NS won with 178 points to runner-up Rome Free Academy’s 131. Alexcis Rydelek led with a second-place discus throw of 82’11” behind RFA’s Tailyn Frost, who won with 82’11”.
Eighth-grader Chloe Feitze again impressed for the Wildcats when she finished third in the 800 in 2:23.93. Zoe Orr went 1:11.74 in the 400 hurdles to gain fifth place.
Fietze, Erin Fortune, Peyton Long and Claire Griffin took fourth in the 4×800 in 10:20.35, with Feitze, Sarah Fettig, Andrea Conklin and Grace McInerney fifth in the 4×400 in 4:20.59.
Grifin got seventh in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:18.55. Mya Rufus was seventh in the 100 sprint in 13.45 seconds, with Natalie Keiling 11th (13.58) as Grace McInerney cleared 4’6” to tie for seventh in the high jump.
Rachael Reynolds had a ninth-place time of 18.06 in the 100 hurdles. Rebecca Dickey was ninth in the 3,000-meter run.and Karli Clark eighth in the pole vault and Alexcix Rydelek eighth in the shot put.
