BALDWINSVILLE – Given the way it had torn through regular-season and league championship meets, the Baldwinsville boys track and field team didn’t need any kind of further advantage going into Wednesday’s Section III Class AA meet.
But the Bees got to compete at home, at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium – and marked the occasion by picking up 168 points and more than doubling the total of runner-up Cicero-North Syracuse, who with 63 points edged West Genesee (61) and Fayetteville-Manlius (60.5) for second place.
At the basis of B’ville’s success was wins in all three relay events, starting in the 4×800, where Solomon Holden-Betts, Logan Hayes, Jack McAllister and Jeff Ragonese broke the eight-minute mark, winning in 7:58.87.
Brandon Levin, Sam Mellinger, Malik Davis and Kaleb Paul went 42.67 seconds to pull away from WG (43.37) in the 4×100 relay, and in the 4×400, Levin, Hayes and McAllister paired with Owen Weaver to win in 3:27.81 to PSLA-Fowler’s second-place 3:30.38.
Mellinger claimed two other sprints, tearing to a time of 10.92 seconds to take the 100-meter dash as Levin (11.42) was sixth, while in the 200-meter dash Mellinger won in 22.01, with Levin third in 22.74. McAllister was victorious in the 400-meter dash in 51.63 seconds, edging Hayes (51.72) as the Bees went 1-2 there, with Kyle Sheckler (53.91) sixth.
Holden-Betts went 1:57.59 for second place in the 800-meter run as Jeff Ragonese was third in 2:00.23, but no one would beat Holden-Betts in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, where he posted 9:25.76, with Keagan Hayes (10:44.34) in fourth place.
And in the five-event pentathlon, B’ville’s Tyler Rawlins built up a big early margin and cruised to the title with 2,601 points, 170 ahead of PSLA-Fowler’s Siyir Price. Nathan Glidden was sixth with 1,989 points.
Weaver claimed another victory in the triple jump, going 42 feet 11 1/4 inches to beat the field by nearly a foot, and was also fourth in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, while taking seventh (19’9″) in the long jump as Thompson (19’7 1/2″) was eighth. David Dobrolowski threw the discus 128’1″ to win as teammate Gibson Boudov was second with 126’6″.
Dan Ewald and Pat Pasho both threw the shot put 44’9″ as they tied for third place, with Adam Cuyler (39’5 1/2″) seventh. Logan Zapf was fourth in the 110 high hurdles in 17.18 seconds, edging Jackson Creelman (17.21) in fifth place.
Noah Covert was fifth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:16.57, with Adam Kozman sixth in 10:19.36. took sixth in the 1,600-meter run in 4:41.95 as Arthur Bauer (4:45.52) held off Ryan Wilson (4:46.76) for eighth place. Creelman was eighth in the 400 hurdles.
B’ville’s girls team picked up 44 points for sixth place, led by Sydney McKenney, who clearing 9 feet was second in the pole vault behind F-M’s Wren Usiatynski, who won by topping 10 feet. McKenney was also seventh in the 400 hurdles in 1:13.82 and eighth in the 100 hurdles in 18.04 seconds, with Erin Gregoire 10th in 18.36.
Kamryn Barton went 1:00.64 for third place in the 400 sprint, with Madison Kennedy fifth in 1:02.61 and Avamarie Davis (1:04.41) in seventh place. Nela Loftin had a fourth-place triple jump of 34’6″.
Anika Selover took third in the 200 in 27.34 seconds as Barton (27.92) was seventh and Kennedy 10th. Lauren Letourneau took fourth in the high jump, clearing 4’10”, and was seventh (15’2 1/2″) in the long jump.
Brianna Andrews picked up 1,759 points for fifth place in the pentathlon. Selover was ninth in the 100 sprint in 13.52.
Davis, Kennedy, Clare Horan and Brianna Grosso were third in the 4×400 in 4:17.25. Natalie Bartkowiak, Aaniya Johnson, Madayia Simmons and KayLynn Pine were fourth in the 4×100 in 52.80 seconds as Madison Kennedy, Margaret Solomon, Adrianna Orlando and Sophia Cavalieri were fifth in the 4×800 in 10:34.49. Solomon finished ninth in the 2,000 steeplechase.
