ONONDAGA COUNTY – After a couple of years where it chased others in the standings, now the Fayetteville-Manlius Green girls golf team was back in its familiar first-place perch.
Yet the Hornets’ quest for an undefeated regular season and the outright league title was upended last Friday afternoon when Cicero-North Syracuse Blue won a 177-182 decision at Northern Pines.
Erin Graves led the visitors with a 43, yet two Northstars beat that total, Jessica Ricciardi posting a 38 and Isabella Borte finishing with a 42.
Chloe Tice’s 46 and Mackenzie Wessels’ 51 helped C-NS Blue hang on, overcoming Graves and Georgia Perry, who shot 44 as Gabby Dardis also shot 46 and Heirut Miller had a 49.
Against its younger counterparts F-M White last Monday at Green Lakes, F-M Green emerged with a 194-214 victory. Graves and Miller tied for low round with a 48, with Dardis and Alana Isley close behind, each of them posting 49.
Emma Li shot F-M White’s low round of 50, not far ahead of the 53 put up by Madison Brown as Sydney Hines and Lucia Melfi both posted 55.
Going to Northern Pines a day later, F-M Green handled C-NS Green 182-229, with Dardis shooting a 42 to lead all individuals. Miller’s 46 was equaled by the Northstars’ Lindsay Kubala, but Elizabeth Noel and Bella Fullmer both stepped up with rounds of 47.
Then F-M White won 209-229 over C-NS Green on Wednesday at Green Lakes. Melfi, with a 48, was matched by Kubala, while Emily Pollard had a 51 to finish third. Hines and Brown both shot 55 and Li added a 56.
In Thursday’s 183-230 win over West Genesee at Green Lakes, F-M Green got a 42 from Dardis, plus a 45 from Graves. Fullmer shot 47 and Isley’s 49 equaled that of the Wildcats’ low round from Sophia Simiele.
Playing again on Friday, F-M White lost a close 172-180 match to Liverpool at Hickory Hill, Melfi shooting 42 behind the 39 from the Warriors’ Maddie Turck as Li and Pollard both posted 45.
In boys golf, Manlius-Pebble Hill prevailed 241-247 over Fabius-Pompey last Thursday afternoon, with Tommy Wildhack shooting a 40 to top the 43 from the Falcons’ Peter Skeval. Dash Goode had a 48, with Owen Sacks shooting 49 and James Wildhack getting a 51.
A 232-277 win over Solvay followed on Friday afternoon, this time with James Wildhack shooting the low 36 to edge the Bearcats’ Matt Muehl, who had a 37. Tommy Wildhack shot 39 as Sacks got a 49 and Goode a 51.
Bishop Grimes won a tight 253-255 match over Fabius-Pompey last Monday, seeing Vinny Falgitano shoot a 35, three strokes ahead of the 38 from the Falcons’ Peter Skeval that exceeded the winning margin. Brandon Stevens had a 44 and Joe Emmi added a 49.
