LIVERPOOL – High ambitions surround the Baldwinsville boys track and field team, and what it did in last Wednesday’s Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division opener did little to dissipate them.
Up against Liverpool at LHS Stadium, the Bees fully utilized its depth to secure chunks of points, along with a string of individual wins, to earn a 102-39 victory over the Warriors.
Owen Weaver, in particular, stood out, with top performances in four different events, including the 400-meter dash, where he tore to a top time of 52.21 seconds.
In the triple jump, Weaver went 38 feet 7 ¾ inches, to go with a winning long jump of 20’ ¼”. Finally, in the high jump, Weaver managed to clear 5’8” for another first-place finish.
Sam Mellinger went 10.94 seconds to beat the field in the 100-meter dash, while Robert Thompson took the 200-meter dash in 23.51 seconds. Logan Zapf recorded a time of 18.04 seconds in the 110 high hurdles.
Over in the girls meet between B’ville and Liverpool, the Bees took a 99-42 defeat, even with a pair of victories from Sydney McKenney.
In the pole vault, McKenney cleared 9 feet, this after she had a top time of 17.45 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.
Maddie Kennedy went 1:02.98 to top the 400-meter dash, while Nela Loftin had a triple jump of 32’8 ¼”. Beatrize Gurgol paced Liverpool with wins in the 400 hurdles (1:18.56), long jump (15’2 ½”) and high jump (4’10”).
