CENTRAL NEW YORK – Things could not have started better for the Cazenovia boys tennis team.
Not only were the Lakers able to get on the court earlier than in some years, it proved impressive in competition, too, shutting out Manlius-Pebble Hill 5-0 last Tuesady afternoon.
To initiate Cazenovia’s singles sweep, Garrett Lounsbury blanked Alex Fung 6-0, 6-0. Gabe Reagan had his own 6-0, 6-0 romp over Jon Howard as Jake Wardell took a bit longer to to beat Eric Ma 6-3, 6-3.
Evan Molloy and Carter Ruddy were pushed in the first set of a 7-5, 6-2 win over Kevin Fratosititanu amd Abraham Salamon. Traian Cherciu and Andrew Falso dominated Matt Roberson and Deven Trikka 6-0, 6-0.
In action again 24 hours later, Cazenovia challenged Skaneateles, but it was the other Lakers who would finish on top by a 4-1 margin.
Cherciu, playing in first singles, put away Max Karpinski 6-0, 6-2, but Lounsbury dropped a tight 6-4, 7-5 match to Jake Salzhauer as Wardell lost to Marty McNeil 7-5, 6-0.
In three sets, Molloy and Ruddy had a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 defeat to Nick Cerimeli and Ethana Pickup, with Falso and Reagan going to doubles and falling to Hatcher Gutchess and Marcus McClanahan 6-4, 6-4.
Meanwhile, Chittenango went up against a strong Christian Brothers Academy side and was unable to earn a point during a 5-0 defeat to the Brothers.
Josh Boulter, in the closest of the three singles matches, fell to Gabriel Minjung 6-1, 6-2, while in doubles Seth Boulter and Jake Simmons nearly grabbed the first set, but fell 7-5, 6-1 to Nate Christaldi and Roy Nasr.
