CENTRAL NEW YORK – When it went to Westhill and won big on April 2, the Liverpool boys lacrosse team was letting everyone know that intended to have a large say in how the SCAC Metro division and Class A turn out this spring.
The Warriors then easily avoided a letdown when it traveled to Holland Stadium last Tuesday night and, with a fine all-around effort, beat the Auburn Maroons 14-4.
Liverpool both started and ended on a high level, amassing a 5-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and then, when Auburn threatened, shutting out the Maroons in the entire second half, Owen Salanger amassing 15 saves and Jalen Graham won 16 of 22 face-offs.
Three different Warriors – Dom Osbeck, Aaron Clouthier and Jackson Furr – picked up three-goal hat tricks, Osbeck adding a trio of assists.
Owen Michaud matched Osbeck’s point total thanks to his two goals and four assists. Joe Sacco added two goals and one assist as Gavin Kenna and Mason Gridley also found the net.
Back in action on Saturday to face Section V’s Hilton, the Warriors remained in great form, bolting out to a 10-2 halftime lead and hardly letting up until it had beaten the Cadets 18-8.
Graham not only won 14 face-offs, he deposited four goals, only trailing Furr’s total of five goals and two assists. Sacco, Clouthier and Kenna got two goals apiece, Clouthier joining Michaud with two assists as Socker and Gridley both had one goal and one assist.
Before this, Cicero-North Syracuse took on New Hartford last Thursday and, improving its own record to 2-0, nearly blanked the Spartans in a 16-1 romp.
Mason Blakeman and Mason Ciciarelli led the Northstars, both netting four goals and combining for seven assists as John Carter got four assists while scoring twice.
Ian Leahey and Michael Koehler also finished with two goals. Elijah Martin had a goal and assist as he was joined in the assist column by Tanner Long, Nick Bisesi and Braylen Tuff.
C-NS made it three in a row on Saturday, outscoring Rondout Valley 17-5 with the two Masons each picking up four goals and Blakeman tacking on four assists.
Close behind them, Leahey got three goals and one assist. Carter had a goal and three assists, with Bisesi getting one goal and two assists. Tuff, Long, Emmit Porter and Colin Stanton also found the net.
This leads to a tough week for the Northstars that includes games against Baldwinsville on Tuesday and Fayetteville-Manlius on Saturday, while Liverpool would challenge F-M Tuesday before games with LaFayette and Shaker.
