NEDROW – Three consecutive Saturdays of post-season wrestling began on Jan. 29 for the Cazenovia and Chittenango wrestling teams when they went to Nedrow for the Onondaga High School League championships.
Of the seven teams in the field, the Bears, with 127 points, got to fourth place, with the Lakers earning 86 points for sixth place. Marcellus (234 points) edged Phoenix (229 points) for the top spot and Jordan-Elbridge finished third.
Evan Rutecki emerged as Cazenovia’s lone champion at 102 pounds. Rutecki, a sophomore, moved to 33-3 on the season with five straight pins at this meet, including one over J-E’s Tyler Chilson in 42 seconds, and took 3:19 to finish off Southern Hills’ Aiden Newkirk in the final.
Over at 189 pounds, Andrew Bailey put Chittenango in the win column, routing Marcellus’ Zach Grolling 11-2 in the finals, while at 285 pounds Jacob Ezzo prevailed when he edged Phoenix’s Landon Crandall with an overtime takedown for a 2-0 decision.
Broden Enders nearly won for Cazenovia at 145 pounds, getting to the final and putting up points against Marcellus’ Chris Doshna, yet taking an 11-8 defeat. Luke Rodriguez was fourth at 118 pounds, with Bryce Enders fifth at 132 pounds and Blaze Dannon fifth at 189.
Mason Ferstler’s 89-second pin of APW/Pulaski’s Cella Lando landed the Chittenango wrestler a third-place finish at 110 pounds, with Dan Mahle (102), Macsen Cameron (189) and Luke Martin (215 pounds) each taking fourth place. Quentin Mohamed gained fifth place at 152 pounds.
