SYRACUSE – Through two sessions of Saturday’s Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena, most of the area’s indoor track and field teams were able to earn first-place finishes.
The morning session included another dominant performance by Skaneateles girls sprinter Kyla Palmer, who went 41.52 seconds to beat the field by nearly two seconds in the 300-meter dash. She also was third in the 55-meter dash in 7.82 seconds and helped the Lakers take fifth in the 4×200 relay.
Marcellus finished third in the boys division, seeing Andrew McCaffery clear 8 feet 6 inches in the pole vault for third place as Colin Gerbsch, Nolan Manahan, Tyler Szalach and Matt Viatle were second in the 4×800 relay in 9:38.60.
Tyler Herr went 38.95 seconds in the 300 to finish third as Skaneateles’ Jack Phililps was fifth. Mason Grieb got fourth place in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.57 seconds, with Lukas Grieb sixth as Joe Striffler was fourth in the triple jump, going 38’3 ¼” as Peter McCaffrey was fourth in the high jump, clearing 5’10”.
Nate Alexander was fourth in the 3,200-meter run as, on the girls side, Heidi Steigerwald was third in the high jump, clearing 4’10”. Emma Roseboom was fourth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump, with Hailey Satter tied for fourth in the pole vault.
West Genesee had strong performances, too, including the boys 4×400, where Chris Moser, Kevin Moser, Payton Manipole and Bryce Bort went 3:39.76 to beat the field by nearly four seconds. Marcellus finished fourth in 3:57.40.
Dom Burris joined Bort, Manipole and Chris Moser to win the 4×200 in 1:35.61. Burris, in 6.83 seconds, was second to East Syracuse Minoa’s Rocky El (6.76) in the 55-meter dash.
Peter McMahon was second in the 1,600-meter run in 4:34.30, with Aidan Walsh (4:56.75) fourth. Burris had a second-place long jump of 19’9 ¾”, with Bort (19’ ¾”) in fourth place.
The girls Wildcats were second in the 4×400 in 4:32.98 and third in the 4×200 in 1:59.04 as Claire Griffin was third in the 1,500-meter run. Alexcis Rydelek had a third-place shot put toss of 27’5 ¼” as Natalie Keiling was fourth in the 55 sprint, Vivian Youmans fifth in the weight throw and Chloe Feitze fifth in the 600.
Moving to the afternoon session, the Westhill girls finished second with 80 points behind Fayetteville-Manlius and the boys Warriors were third behind F-M and Jamesville-DeWitt.
Angie Mesa swept the sprints, going 7.55 seconds to win the 55-meter dash before she claimed victory in the 300 in 43.39 seconds, with Kennedy Rose fourth in 46.27.
Kate Bendall had a second-place long jump of 15’6 ½”, was third in the 55 hurdles in 9.72 seconds and helped the Warriors finish second in the 4×200 in 1:54.02. Westhill also was third in the 4×400 in 4:44.01.
Mary Kate Rewakowski was third in the pole vault, with Colleen Patrie third in the shot put. Ellie Thornton got sixth place in the 1,500.
Westhill’s boys included Drew O’Reilly going 2:45.27 to prevail in the 1,000, while in the pole vault, Patrick Mahoney won by clearing 10’6” and Carter Buckman topped 10 feet. Mahoney also was fourth in the high jump as the Warriors took third in the 4×800 in 9:21.79.
Brandon Muholland rose to second place in the 600 in 1:27.96, edged by Homer’s Tommy Mahunik (1:27.74), and helped Westhill finish third in the 4×400 in 3:58.48. Brian Kenny went 4:48.93 in the 1,600 to finish third. Owen Mulholland was sixth in the 55 hurdles.
Jordan-Elbridge had Vassianna Klock win the girls 1,000 in 3:00.41, beating F-M’s Izzie Sullivan (3:02.17). The boys Eagles were fourth in the 4×200 in 2:09 flat.
