CENTRAL NEW YORK – Three days before it was scheduled to host an invitational meet, the Jamesville-DeWitt/Christian Brothers Academy boys swim team moved to 7-0 on the season.
Having rested and practiced since a Dec. 21 win over Cicero-North Syracuse, the Red Rams returned last Wednesday , traveling to Oswego and rolling to an 88-76 victory over the Buccaneers.
Misha and Lesha Kubanov each had a pair of first-place times in this meet. In the 200-yard freestyle, Misha Kubanov prevailed in one minute, 51.66 seconds before posting 5:06.10 in the 500 freestyle.
As for Lesha Kubanov, he had a top time of 1:02.13 in the 100 butterfly and, in 1:15.12, beat the field in the 100 breaststroke.
Nathaniel Wales, who was second in the 200 freestyle in 1:52.46, did go 57.14 seconds in the 100 backstroke as Gehrig Snyder won the 100 freestyle in 57.94 seconds. George Theobald went 2:36.63 to claim the 200 individual medley.
Mark Bratslavsky swam the 50 freestyle in 23.39 seconds after he held Kubanov, Holmquist and Bobby Diel a get a top time of 1:55.58 in the 200 medley relay. Holmquist, Matt Sullivan, Michael DiBiase and Braden McVicker went 1:48.85 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Garrett Fuller was second (190.05 points) in diving, just ahead of Sean Rigdon (186.00) and Cameron Corona (180.45).
Before this, on Dec. 28 the Griffin Sprint Invitational featured Fayeteville-Manlius, who had Quinn Smith take the 100 backstroke in 55.10 seconds, edging Wales’ 55.61 as Carter Page was fourth, and win the 100-yard individual medley in 58.35 seconds to Wales’ 59.56.
Smith also was third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.97 as Wales, in the 50 backstroke, claimed first place in 27.33 seconds, with Page (27.57) third.
