CENTRAL NEW YORK – Earning its third consecutive victory, the Liverpool girls swim team welcomed Baldiwnsville Tuesday night and, with its superior depth, rolled to a 100-75 victory over the Bees.
The Warriors started to pile up points with a 1-2-3 finish in the 200-yard medley relay, won by the quartet of Dominieque DeRuijter, Kerry Hunter, Emerson Gellert and Morgan Kenna in two minutes, 8.42 seconds.
DeRuijter would gain a victory of her own in the 500 freestyle, her time of 5:52.59 just ahead of Gellert’s 5:58.57, and would also post the fastest 100 backstroke time of 1:10.32 to beat out Nicole Testone’s 1:11.79.
A close 100 freestyle saw Julia King, in 1:01.90, edge B’ville’s Mia Rinko (1:02.17) for the top spot, with King later helping Gellert, Kaitlyn Thompson and Brianna Kuznia win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:51.82.
In the 50 freestyle, Thompson tore to a time of 25.88 seconds, with King second in 28.11. To close out the meet, Thompson, King, Kuznia and Sarah Colwell went 4:05.84 in the 400 freestyle relay.
Unopposed in diving, Liverpool had Aija McIntyre take first place with 204.15 points, while Sofia Valente earned second with 177.40 points and Azyrella Halsey was third.
B’ville had a pair of double winners. Eva Smith took the 200 individual medley in 2:17.13 to Gellert’s 2:36.66 and later claimed the 100 butterfly in 1:04.96, with Kuznia (1:09.56) second.
Smith’s teammate, Ashley Konz, edged Kuznia, 2:10.36 to 2:10.42, in an exciting 200 freestyle and would post the quickest time in the 100 breaststroke, 1:18.04, with Sydney Hayes (1:24.77) second for the Warriors.
That same night, Cicero-North Syracuse saw its meet with Jamesville-DeWitt postponed, a second straight meet abandoned after the same thing happened Sept. 16 with a meet against Christian Brothers Academy.
Finally the Northstars were back in action Thursday night against Oswego, a close contest from start to finish where C-NS fell just short in a 90-84 defeat to the Buccaneers.
Though Oswego won most of the races on the card, what kept the Northstars close was a series of second and third-place finishes to go with a 1-2 finish in diving as Kaitlyn Carroll, with 253.15 points, beat out the 200.65 from Sophia Sugrue.
Cassidy Svoboda, in 1:14.96, pulled out a victory in the 100 breaststroke, with Kate Gucciardi second in both the 200 IM in 2:27.21 and 100 backstroke in 1:03.98.
Other runner-up finishes went to Abigail Bouziden (200 freestyle, 2:24.27), Cassidy Payrot (50 freestyle, 26.96 seconds), Brittany Wood (100 butterfly, 1:10.59) and Ella Lawrence (500 freestyle, 6:19.59).
The Bucs also swept all three relays despite Svoboda, Carroll, Gucciardi and Natalia VanTassel going 1:51.77 in the 200 freestyle relay. Oswego was led by two wins apiece from Grace Wing, who swam the 50 freestyle in 25.37 and the 100 freestyle in 55.94, and Sydney DeLapp, who took the 100 butterfly in 1:03.11 and the 100 backstroke in 1:02.68.
C-NS swims again next week, scheduled to take on Auburn and West Genesee. Liverpool, meanwhile, would have two meets, hosting Jamesville-DeWitt next Tuesday before going to Mexico on Thursday night.
