ONONDAGA COUNTY – Having struggled through much of this spring, the Liverpool boys tennis team rose up just in time to finally break into the win column.
The Warriors were 0-6 going into Monday’s match against West Genesee, but helped by a singles sweep and a timely comeback from Evan Prosser, it beat the Wildcats 4-3.
This was the same WG side that beat Liverpool 5-2 just two weeks earlier, but as the Wildcats concentrated its strongest players in doubles, the Warriors took over in singles.
Aiden Barbour blanked Sam Barth 6-0, 6-0, with Adam Reiter battling past Josh Pierce 6-4, 6-3. Then Prosser, after dropping the first set to Ben Paoli, Rallied to win the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Dominated in three of the doubles matches, WG still earned the clinching point when Aiden Hunter and James Welch paired up to take out Michael Colon and Joe Paoli 6-2, 7-6.
As for Cicero-North Syracuse, who beat West Genesee the week before, it ran right into Baldwinsville Monday afternoon and lost, 6-1, to the Bees.
The Northstars’ lone point came in doubles, where Ethan and Wyatt Dupell paired up to get a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Mason Doan and Leonardo Vona.
B’ville earned the rest of the points in two-set decisions. The closest of the three singles matches had Matt Jordan push Connor Tutor to a first-set tie-breaker but then take a 7-6, 6-1 defeat
