CENTRAL NEW YORK – Once again, the Marcellus boys golf team is casting aside all of its spring competition.
In a three-way match on May 14 at Pine Grove, the Mustangs shot 204 to the 275 posted by Solvay, who did manage to finish ahead of Bishop Grimes’ total of 282.
It was followed last Wednesday by Marcellus handling Cato-Meridian 202-293, with Shawn Colella blazing to a three-under-par 33 on the same Meadowbrook course where the Mustangs beat Weedsport on May 7.
From its match with Marcellus, Solvay went on to fall 227-292 to Pulaski last Monday afternoon, with Anthony D’Agostino shooting a 50 behind four Blue Devils golfers, led by Drayce Reiter (40) and Landon Jones (41).
Playing again on Thursday, Solvay fell 271-314 to Syracuse, with Matt Muehl’s 53 the best individual total for the Bearcats. Anthony Artini added a 56 as George Chesna, with a 38, paced Syracuse. A 191-296 defeat to Manlius-Pebble Hill followed on Friday.
Switching to girls golf, Marcellus and Westhill went head-to-head last Tuesday afternoon, and it was the Mustangs prevailing 225-228 in a closely fought match.
Allison Coombs’ 52 and Bronte Stahl’s 55 led Marcellus as Catherine Dadey paced Westhill with a 52 and Hannah Johnston had a 55. Where the Mustangs won was with Colleen Marsh getting a 56 and Genevieve Formoza adding a 62 in between the 57 from the Warriors’ Jules Bleskoski.
Skaneateles traveled to Drumilns last Monday to face unbeaten Christian Brothers Academy, and were overwhelmed in a 185-258 defeat to the Brothers.
Julia Marshall’s 55 was fourth to the CBA trio of Annie Kilmartin, Aubrey Mills (42 each) and Hanna Kang (44). Jillian Scott shot a 59, with Elsa Marshall posting a 69 ahead of Reese McConochy (75) and Brooke Mailloux (77).
But the Lakers got back to the win column Wednesday by handling Manlius-Pebble Hill 219-248 at Lyndon. Jillian Scott had a team-best 52, two shots ahead of Isabella Arroyo, who had a 54. McConochy and Isabella Pietropaoli both finished with 56.
Marcellus prevailed 238-259 over Chittenango on Thursday afternoon, led by Marsh shooting a 54 as Coombs was third with a 59 and Stahl contributed a 62, with Formoza shooting 65.
On Friday at the Links at Erie Village, Marcellus and Skaneateles faced off, and the Lakers won 214-217 head-to-head but host Bishop Grimes beat both of them with 212.
Stahl’s 48 was second to the 44 from Grimes’ Sarah Falgiatano, with Formoza getting a 52. Julia Marshall’s 51 paced Skaneateles, with Elsa Marshall (53), Pietropaoli (54), Scott (56) and Arroyo (57) close behind.
West Genesee returned to action last Wednesday against Cicero-North Syracuse Green and, earning its second win of the season, the Wildcats topped the Northstars 230-241.
Sophia Simiele’s 53 at Northern Pines was part of a top-three WG sweep, with Maria Bove adding a 55 and Leah Corelran adding a 59 as Lizzy Sachar added a 63.
Then the Wildcats faced C-NS Blue at Westvale a day later, hoping to repeat its 147-150 win from May 3, but those Northstars got even, prevailing 199-219.
Bove shot a 53 and Simiele had a 54, with Sachar and Corelran both shooting 56, but C-NS Blue swept the top three, led by Jessica Ricciardi’s 45.
