ONONDAGA COUNTY – Having raced to a 4-1 start to establish its credentials as a Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division title contender, the Baldwinsville girls golf team would face a crucial test late last week – and pass it.
Fayetteville-Manlius Green, the reigning league and Section III Class A champions, arrived at Timber Banks on Thursday and, with the depth in its lineup, the Bees were able to topple the Hornets by a score of 187-192.
Even though F-M Green’s Lucy Fowler had the low nine-hole total of 38, B’ville had the next two spots thanks to Margaret Dec shooting a 41 to finish second and Collen Vredenburg posting a 47 to take third place.
Jessica Bilynsky, with her 49, tied the Hornets’ Michaela Papa and Alana Isley for fourth place, and Cara Vredenburg clinched the Bees’ victory when she shot a 50.
B’ville was coming off an impressive 196-223 victory over Cicero-North Syracuse Blue last Monday at Northern Pines, with the Vredenburg sisters again at the forefront.
Cara Vredenburg gained individual honors with a 46 and Colleen Vredenburg shot a 47 ahead of the 48 by the Northstars’ Jessica Ricciardi, while Dec, with a 49, took fourth place.
The win over F-M Green moved B’ville’s record to 5-1 as it faces F-M’s White team early next week and then has a rematch with C-NS Blue on May 21.
