CENTRAL NEW YORK – Having already won its first two matches of the season, the Marcellus girls golf team wanted to keep it going even as wet weather threatened to push back more matches.
The Mustangs moved to 3-0 in last Monday’s match at Cazzenovia, relying heavily on Bronte Stahl for much of the margin in a 227-245 win over the Lakers.
Stahl shot 46 for nine holes at Cazenovia Country Club, the top individual score by 11 strokes ahead of the 57 posted by Cazenovia’s Natalie Dolan.
Help came from Allison Coombs, who finished third with a 58, along with a fifth-place 61 from Miranda Stewart as Genevieve Formoza posted a 62 and Colleen Marsh added a 63.
Westhill, meanwhile, moved to 2-0 against Skaneateles that same afternoon, the Warriors prevailing 220-245 as Catherine Dadey got the low round of 51 at Skaneateles Country Club and Maya Wollen added a 55.
A day later at Camillus Golf Club, Westhill just held off Manlius-Pebble Hill 241-242, with Dadey’s 49 again setting the pace for the Warriors ahead of a 58 from Hannah Johnston and a 64 from Jules Bleskoski.
When play resumed Thursday, Westhill won 225-306 over Chittenango, with Dadey’s 48 part of a top-five sweep. Wollen shot a 57, with Bleskoski (59), Bella Jones (61) and Charlotte Roth (64) close behind.
As that went on, Skaneateles held off Cazenovia 243-250 led by Juila Marshall’s 49 at Skaneateles Country Club, while Marcellus lost, 211-240, to Christian Brothers Academy.
Allison Coombs led the Mustangs with a 55, but that trailed the Brothers’ trio of Annie Kilmartin, Hanna Kang (51 each) and Aubrey Mills (52). Stahl had a 65, behind Coombs’ 57 and 60s from Stewart and Marsh.
West Genesee was still in search of its first victory in 2021 when it went to Northern Pines and dropped a close 147-150 decision to Cicero-North Syracuse’s Blue squad. Maria Bove shot a 38, with Sophia Simiele and Leah Corelran each posting 44 for the Wildcats.
Then the Wildcats lost, 117-163, to Fayetteville-Manlius Green on the shortened course at Green Lakes, where Simiele had a 37 and Bove a 38, but that trailed four different Hornets, led by Lucy Fowler’s 25 and Michaela Papa’s 27.
In boys golf, Marcellus has maintained a spring schedule, which got underway last Tuesday at Sunset Ridge with a 235-293 victory over Syracuse City.
Shawn Colella’s 36 was easily the best individual round, with a 43 from Mustangs teammate John White as Will Glass posted a 45.
The Mustangs rolled again 209-285 over Weedsport on Friday, with Colella shooting a one-under-par 34 at Meadowbrook. Glass and Ben Reome both shot 45, with Ryan Lundrigan adding a 49.
