DEWITT – Before it closed up its 2021 season, the Jamesville-DeWitt/Christian Brothers Academy boys swim team had one more competition with which to showcase its skills.
Up against Baldwinsville last Saturday afternoon, the Red Rams prevailed 158-126, getting two individual victories apiece from Nathaniel Wales, Nathan Chen and Bobby Diel.
Both of Wales’ races were close. In the 200-yard freestyle, Wales posted one minute, 51.72 seconds, half a second clear of the 1:52.12 from the Bees’ Tristan Miranda.
Later, in the 500 freestyle, Wales needed 5:09 flat to hold off Miranda’s 5:10.93, right before he helped Chen, Mike Bratslavsky and Berger win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.14.
For his part, Chen was victorious in the 50 freestyle in 23.25 seconds to the 23.45 from B’ville’s Mikey White, later going to the 100 breaststroke and prevailing in 1:05.32, with Emmanuel Ignacio (1:12.21) second.
Diel, having swam the 200 individual medley in 2:16.21 to beat Harrison Meyers’ 2:21.73, claimed first in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.45. He also helped Chen, Tyler Huyck and Lucas Holmquist win the 200 medley relay in 1:51.16.
Mark Bratslavsky, in 52.72 seconds, edged White (52.78) to win the 100 freestyle. Jamey Turo held off Huyck, 1:02.07 to 1:02.30, to finish first in the 100 backstroke.
Jack Cahill picked up 224.25 points in diving after appearing in the Salt City Athletic Conference Invitational and earning fourth place with 404.45 points.
Fayetteville-Manlius diver Connor Gleasman nearly won the SCAC event, his 483.90 points trailing only the 490.95 from West Genesee’s Justin Byrne.
