At no time this winter will the reigning two-time Section III DivisionI champions play on home ice.
The Syracuse Cougars, whose roster includes several players from area high schools in the western suburbs, are playing all 12 of its games away from Meachem Rink.
This nomadic journey commenced last Thursday night at the Twin Rinks in Cicero, where the Cougars displayed plenty of firepower in a 6-2 win over Cicero-North Syracuse.
Things were even early, but with the score 1-1 going into the second period, Syracuse took charge, scoring twice while keeping the Northstars off the board.
More goals followed in the final period as Jameson Bucktooth led the way, producing a three-goal hat trick.
Nelson Jones, Owen Mahar and Michael Madigan also found the net, with Ethan Petty getting a pair of assists. Single assists went to Luke Dwyer, Cameron Walsh, Matt Rioux and Matt Gilmore.
Two days later, Syracuse met CBA/Jamesville-DeWitt, in a somewhat familiar setting – the State Fair Coliseum, which the Solvay program once used as home ice before joining with Syracuse.
It was closer than the season opener, but the Cougars edged the Brothers 3-2, getting all of its offense when it scored three times in the second period to break up a 0-0 deadlock, then withstanding a late CBA/J-D comeback.
