For 17 long days, the Baldwinsville boys soccer team waited for one more opportunity to take the field again.
Just after its Oct. 24 win over Oswego, the Bees discovered that a player had tested positive for COVID-19, which wiped out two weeks worth of games that were not rescheduled.
Once everyone was able to take the field again, a game was arranged with Christian Brothers Academy, which took place last Wednesday night at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.
And it proved a good one, the Bees starting fast and then withstanding several late comebacks to prevail 3-2 and end the Brothers’ six-game win streak.
Within the game’s first 20 minutes, Malik Davis and Jake Daley both scored with assists going to Aidan Stan and Jack Branigan, pushing B’ville to a 2-0 lead that was needed since the Brothers got on the board and cut the margin to 2-1 by halftime.
Another exchange followed in the second half, Branigan this time assisting on Evan Smith’s goal, and B’ville held on, helped by six saves from Owen Tracy and Nick Hollingshead.
Overall, the Bees finished at 7-2, second in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division standings behind undefeated Fayetteville-Manlius.
