For three days early last week, the Cazenovia girls tennis team had to wait for the rain to stop.
Matches against Christian Brothers Academy and Homer were pushed back, and a third contest against Manlius-Pebble Hill had to wait until Thursday afternoon.
But once it did dry up, the Lakers and Trojans squared off, and Cazenovia, taking three of the four doubles matches, negated MPH’s edge in singles and pulled out a 4-3 decision.
In single-set races to eight games, Quinlan Emhoff and Megan Kuhn shut out Ileana Anghel and Sophia Menacho 8-0, with Ella Brown and Emily Knapp prevailing by default.
Julia Knutsen and Nina Royer lost, 8-2, to Parmees Fazeli and Caroline Mezzalingua, but Mae Sayre and Emma Schwartz took an 8-4 victory over Ava Benedict and Fariel Migeed.
Up in singles, Baylee Pierce was able to claim a forfeit, while Clare Douglas took an 8-6 loss to Genevieve Morrow and Nova Berger fell to Amitees Fazeli 8-1.
A day later, Cazenovia faced Bishop Grimes and gained a little more success, dominating the doubles portion of a 5-2 victory over the Cobras.
Berger and Knapp paired up, handling Alicia and Leah Perry 10-1, with Royer and Ella Brown topping Lexi Emmi and Eleanor DeChick 10-2.
In another 10-2 match, Knutsen and Emma Schwartz beat Julia Avery and Deddeh Fasama, with Emhoff and Kuhn getting their own 10-2 victory over Alivia Duchano and Giavanna Hillman.
Sayre got the lone Lakers point in singles, edging Isabelle Kinsey 10-8. Douglas had a 10-7 defeat to Sarah Falgiatano and Pierce lost 10-5 to Sofia Ziankoski.
Chittenango had three different matches postponed due to weather, including one with Cazenovia that will get made up this week in between the Bears’ contests against MPH and Christian Brothers Academy.
