In order to maintain its place atop the Onondaga High School League standings, the Cazenovia boys golf team needed to sweep through its mid-October slate.
Back on the course on a warm, windy Wednesday afternoon, the Lakers faced LaFayette at Orchard Valley and breezed to a 223-265 victory over the Lancers.
As a follow-up, the Lakers met up once more with Chittenango on Thursday at Rogues Roost, part of a three-team match that also included the Phoenix Firebirds.
Cazenovia shot 207 to the Bears’ 240 and Phoenix’s 295, with Alex Moesch and Jack Byrnes tying for the top spot, each of them shooting 40. Close behind them, Chris Kelly, Ben Orbach and Cody Dickinson all shot 42.
But it was Chittenango’s Tyrus Kelly shooting the low individual round of 38, while Tanner Smith’s 40 matched Moesch and Byrnes. Maddox Garvey added a 47 and Landon Martin improved to a 53.
Before this, Chittenango stepped out of league play for last Tuesday’s match against Fayetteville-Manilus White at Woodcrest.
Smith shot a 37 to lead all individuals, yet the Bears lost 214-261, with Kelly’s 40 matched by the Hornets’ Andrew Ahn and Jason Carter, and no other round better than Garvey’s 50.
Playing again on Friday, Chittenango lost 223-278 to Skaneateles, Kelly again shooting 40, this time at Skaneateles Country Club, to finish one better than Lakers star Tynan Jones. Smith had a 48 and Garvey produced a 54.
