Another perfect regular season is close to complete for the Liverpool boys swim team, made more impressive by the fact that it had to do it all on the road due to the school’s athletic complex reconstruction project.
Just one more league test remains next Thursday night, with the Warriors taking on Fayetteville-Manlius at the Cazenovia College pool, and then it’s on to preparations for the Section III and state meets.
In the wake of its busy early-January slate where it had seven events in 15 days, Liverpool competed just once last week, going to Auburn Wednesday and handling the Maroons 91-67.
Most of the Warriors’ top swimmers rested, giving some others a well-earned opportunity to compete and win races.
And that included Josh Foley, who went from winning the shortest race, the 50 freestyle in 24.20 seconds, to earning a victory in the longest race, the 500 freestyle, clocking 5:44.73.
Ryan Wilhelm, aside from winning the 100 butterfly in 1:00.90 and posting the fastest 100 breaststroke time of 1:09.58, helped Foley, Tima Vasylevskyi and Ismar Latifagic go 1:55.48 in the 200 medley relay. Foley, Wilhelm, Latifagic and Ian Wojcikowski won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:44.09.
On his own, Wojcikowski was first in the 200 freestyle in 2:11.28 over Colin White (2:12.83) as Trevor Selig took first in the 200 individual medley in 2:28.31. Simon VanHoute swam the 100 backstroke in 1:06.74.
As for Cicero-North Syracuse, it went to West Genesee Tuesday night and could not get much going in a 92-73 defeat to the Wildcats.
The Northstars did not win an individual race until the 100 freestyle, when Lucas Petralia prevailed in 53.49 seconds, more than three seconds ahead of WG’s Colin Whalen (57.14).
John Harbaugh was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.39, with Connor Burke second in the 200 IM in 2:27.73 as Nathan Dallman went 1:13.95 in the 100 backstroke and Logan Petralia swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.40.
In the relay races, C-NS did best in the 200 medley, where Harbaugh, Petralia, Burke and Seaver Schultz went 1:49.49 to edge WG’s 1:49.54. Schultz, Petralia, Harbaugh and Crispin Coombs went 1:37.61 in the 200 freestyle relay.
At Baldwinsville two days later, the Northstars lost 52-32, though it started with a win as Petralia, Harbaugh, Schultz and Burke improved to 1:47.82 in the 200 medley relay.
Petralia also prevailed in the 100 freestyle in 52.62 seconds and was second (23.29 seconds) in the 50 freestyle behind Schultz, who won in 22.98 seconds.
Burke was second in the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, where B’ville’s Nick Schultz broke a pool record with 59.06 seconds, also helping the Bee set a pool mark of 1:33.06 in the 200 freestyle relay as Bailey had yet another pool record when he won the 200 freestyle in 1:47.58.
