After a strong run through December, the Cazenovia boys indoor track and field team stepped it up even further in its first 2020 appearance.
The Lakers pulled away from the field to take team honors in the afternoon session of Saturday’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena, earning 134 points, well clear of runner-up Fayetteville-Manlius and its total of 70 points.
Sweeping the jumping events, Dalton Sevier cleared 11 feet in the pole vault and beat the field in the high jump by topping 6’1″ with fewer misses than Faith Heritage’s John Manchester. Sevier and Dylan Anderson won the team high jump, topping 11’1″ together.
Slater DeLeon beat the field in the 300-meter dash in 37.72 seconds and, with Cormac Race, got first place on the team side in 1:17.34. Dylan Albicker had a winning triple jump of 38 feet 9 1/2 inches and, with Sevier, got the team victory with 76’2″
Jared Smith won the individual 1,000-meter run in 2:52.88 and paired with Cassidy Gilmore to get the team victory in 5:52.87. Then Andrew Kent took the 600-meter run in 1:29.50, pairing with Alex Lansing for second (3:09.91) in the team event.
DeLeon also went 6.89 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles, second among individuals as he and Anderson were second in the team event in 14.41 seconds. DeLeon and Dylan Albicker were second in the long jump, going 37’8 1/2″.
Connor Wilson and Jason Olkowski went to the top spot in the 55-meter hurdles in 18.14 seconds before Wilson, Anderson, Andrew Lee and Charles Kubinec won the 4×200 relay in 1:41.78.
Smith and Eric Groff were second in the 3,200-meter run in 21:58.35 before Smith, Andrew Kent, Mike Senehi and Hunter McCullough finished second in the 4×800 relay in 9:00.53. Senehi and Stan Angus finishes third in the 1,600-meter run in 10:25.88.
Olkowski and Gordan Wester were third in the shot put with throws of 70’2 1/2″, with Wester and Olkowski third in the weight throw as they heaved it 70’6″. Race, Albicker, Charlie Aronson and Dan Millson were third in the 4×400 relay in 3:54.46.
Chittenango took part in the morning session of the Arcaro meet and finished with 23 points on the girls side, 21 points on the boys side.
The girls Bears had Piper Beckwith, Lauren Suppe, McKayla Capeling and Kiara Waite take third place in the 4×800 in 10:59.21, also taking fifth in the 4×400 and 1,500.
But Chittenango won the 4×400 on the boys side when Tristam LaFountaine, Kenny Matthews, Parker Tedford and Warren Tedford posted 3:52.52. The Bears were fifth in the 1,000, 4×200 and shot put.
