For the first time this winter, the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool indoor track and field teams competed against each other, head-to-head, during Saturday’s afternoon session of the George Constantino Memorial Invitaional.
And it was the Northstars sweeping to the team titles, piling up 202 points on the boys end as the girls, with 171.5 points, were well clear of the Warriors’ second-place total of 114 points.
Sam Nessel, in 6.85 seconds, tore to victory in the 55-meter dash as Josh Adams (7.07) was fourth, this before the 300-meter dash where Nessel went 37.75 seconds to win again, with Colin Hopkins (39.70) third.
Claiming a third title, Nessel, pairing with Hopkins, Adams and Isaiah Wright, would tear to first place in the 4×200 relay in 1:36.40 as no one else broke the 1:41 mark.
Wright would beat the field in the long jump by leaping 20 feet 6 inches, with Carlton Garnes fifth as he also was third in the triple jump with 37’6 1/2” and Jack Tschopp (37 feet) was fourth, adding a fifth in the high jump.
Evan Breitbeck beat the field in the 600-meter run in 1:31.27, with Evan Nobles fifth. Later, in the 1,000-meter run, Breitbeck was second in 2:57.92, with Zach Bergman (2;59.46) third.
In the 3,200-meter run, R.J. Davis prevailed in 10:19.20, while Josh Koeppe (10:25.51) beat out Evan Romano (10:26.16) for third place.
The Northstars went 1-2 in the shot put, Matt Wentling-Raymie winning with 42 feet and Maxwell White second with 41’4 1/2” as Liverpool’s Jamie Vong was fourth with 37’4”. Wentling-Raymie was second in the weight throw, going 42’3”.
Matt LeClair got second place in the 1,600-meter run in 4:37.60, with Liverpool’s Jon Howland sixth in 4:57.16 as the Warriors’ Dominick Scro got fourth place in the 300.
C-NS was second in the 4×400 relay in 3′:55.30, ahead of Liverpool (4:09.61) in fourth place, and was runner-up again in the 4×800, where Liverpool’s Carter Rodriguez, Charlie Praschunus, Jake McGowan and Ryan Cartwright pulled away to take the title in 8:54.33. Liam O’Neil finished fourth in the weight throw.
To propel the C-NS girls, Brooke Blaisdell won the 55 hurdles in 9.26 seconds, while Kate Putman, in the 1,000, beat the field in 3:12.09, while Morgan Kingdeski was third and Hannah Reichard fourth.
Blaisdell won again in the long jump, going 16’3 3/4”, and added a third title in the triple jump when she went 36’4”, with Lexi Gaetz in fourth place and Liverpool’s Arianna Jenkins (30’6 1/4”) between them in third place.
McKenna Slate, Shannon Brown, McKenna Johnston and Hannah Boyle would claim the 4×400 in 4:20.42, with Liverpool third in 4:43.94.
In the 1,500-meter run, Putman was second in 4:47.68, with Reichard again fourth. It was the same in the 600, with Kingdeski second in 1:45.45 and Brown in fourth place.
Boyle got second (44.29 seconds) and Slate fourth (45.23) in the 300, with Liverpool’s Anne Gullo third in 44.39 seconds. Allison Newton was third in the 3,000-meter run, with Marissa Doty fourth and Keira Anderson sixth.
Dueling in the high jump, the Northstars’ Lilly Capria and the Warriors’ Amina Sinclair both cleared 5’3”, but Capria had fewer misses, so she won with Gaetz third (4’10”)
Liverpool did win in the 4×800, with Kayleigh Buck, Eva Woodworth, Jenna Schulz and Sydney Carlson going 10:22.34, leaving C-NS in fourth place.
Another relay title for the Warriors came in the 4×200 as Gullo, Riley Norris, Tahje McDonald and Skye Cronin got to a time of 1:54.26 and the Northstars were right behind in 1:55.03.
Imahni Sinclair beat everyone in the throwing events, going 45’2 1/2” to dominate the weight throw and 36’1 1/2” in the shot put as Stephanie Webb got C-NS third place in both of those events.
Amelia Loop was second in the pole vault, clearing 7’9” as Sophia Recuparo was fourth with 7 feet. Norris gained second place in the 55 sprint in 7.79 seconds, with C-NS’s Julianna Hutt fifth. Natalie Venesky finished third in the 55 hurdles in 10.04 seconds, with Alexa Ostrander fourth in the long jump and high jump.
