This Friday night, the girls basketball teams from Cazenovia and Chittenango would clash with each other, both of them having achieved plenty early this season.
For the Lakers, the initial joy of seeing Lindsey Lawson pass 1,000 career points in a Dec. 3 win over Madison was followed up by a Dec. 6 win over its namesakes from Sknaeateles and last Tuesday’s 52-43 win at Homer that put Cazenovia at 3-0 overall.
But the big tests still lay ahead this week – three games in five days, starting when Cazenovia hosts Bishop Grimes Monday at Buckley Gym and then visits long-time power Westhill on Wednesday before a Friday trip to Chittenango to take on the hot-starting Bears.
Chittenango also played just once last week, having seen a game with Fayetteville-Manlius, set for last Friday, pushed back to late the regular season on Feb. 13.
At Hannibal last Monday night, the Bears won its third in a row, prevailing 58-35 as Ally Shoemaker produced another triple-double, earning 14 points and 11 rebounds, and burning the Warriors on defense thanks to her 12 steals.
A close game broke open when Chittenango outscored Hannibal 38-15 over the course of the second and third quarters, Emily Moon leading the offense with 16 points to go with seven rebounds, six steals and three assists.
Cassidy Kelly earned her own double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, plus seven teals. Ashley Thompson got eight points as Jessica Shortslef led Hannibal with 13 points.
Chittenango would play Tuesday at Syracuse Academy of Science before Cazenovia’s visit.
