Mired with a 4-8 record, the Baldwinsville boys volleyball team may have reached a turning point with its come-from-behind victory over Fayetteville-Manlius Wednesday night.
This was the same Hornets side that the Bees beat in four sets on Sept. 19, but B’ville had not played well since, so it felt some urgency going into this match.
After claiming the opener 25-20, the Bees were on the brink of a 2-0 lead before F-M pulled out the second set 27-25, going on to take the third set 25-18.
Regrouping just in time, B’ville won the fourth set 25-21 and, in a fifth-set race to 15 points, moved out in front again and ultimately won the match 15-11.
Carter Healey set a season mark with 43 assists, aided by a deep and reliable front line. Aidan Priest had 17 kills and six digs, while Bradford Doubleday mixed in 14 kills, four digs and four aces.
Curtiss Hey and Adam Lobdell each gained eight kills, while Ben Stisser had six kills and John Morrissey added four digs. On F-M’s side, Andersen Fuller led with 13 kills, just ahead of Cyrus Felton’s total of 10 kills. Aidan Liddell finished with 30 assists.
In girls volleyball, Baldwinsville, back from its weekend trip to a tournament in Lakeland that included a visit to New York City, played just once this week, handling Corcoran Thursday in a 25-12, 25-17, 25-11 sweep.
Jenna Garvey had 10 assists, four aces and three digs, with Summer McClintic getting nine assists and five aces. Sydney Aiello also finished with five aces.
Overall, B’ville produced 21 aces, four of them from Brooke Clute to go with her four kills. Margaret Dec, Emma LeGault and Katie Naprawa each finished with five kills, LeGault adding two aces.
Another tournament appearance followed on Saturday at Horseheads before the girls Bees finish the regular season next week traveling to Cicero-North Syracuse Tuesday and hosting Nottingham Thursday on Senior Night, after the B’ville boys host Jamesville-DeWitt and Liverpool earlier in the week.
