The West Genesee softball team played last Wednesday against Baldwinsville and lost a 4-3 decision to the Bees, who didn’t flinch when the Wildcats went ahead with a pair of third-inning runs.
Still up 2-0, WG saw B’ville score a run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth to move in front, and then withstood the Wildcats’ late push as it got a run in the seventh, but could not catch up.
Kayla Hoovler took the loss, though she struck out five. Arlea Vecchio and Izabella Carrodegaus each had two hits, with Vecchio and Jessica Simon driving in runs.
A day later, the Wildcats tested defending sectional Class AA champion Cicero-North Syracuse, and were unable to get much going in a 10-0 defeat to the Northstars.
Even though WG earned seven hits, three of them by Rachel Shackleton, it could not get a run against C-NS ace Ariana Corasaniti. Meanwhile, the Northstars got 18 hits off Hoovler and single runs in four different innings before a six-run seventh as Brooke Nicolaos led them with three hits and three RBIs.
A rematch with C-NS on Saturday night ended with the Wildcats falling 14-6 to the Northstars, while earlier that day WG lost a 6-5, eight-inning decision to Rome Free Academy
Against RFA, a three-run second inning put WG in front 4-1, and after an exchange of runs it was 5-2 before the Black Knights used a run in the fifth and two runs in the top of the seventh to catch up at 5-5.
Then a run in the eighth got the Black Knights the lead, and WG couldn’t match it, though Shackleton and Carrodegaus each got three hits and Hoovler doubled twice, with Abbey VanHorn earning a pair of RBIs.
The second game against C-NS saw the Wildcats notch all six of its runs in the top of the fourth inning, nearly erasing a 7-0 deficit. Abbey VanHorn’s two-run home run was the big blow as Vecchio, Carrodegaus, Sophia VanHorn and Emma Garvey also drove in runs.
But the Northstars reclaimed control with a run in the bottom of the fourth and three runs in each of the next two frames, getting a home run from Francesca LaRobardiere as she got three RBIs and Alayna Harbaugh drove in four runs.
Jordan-Elbridge had a 4-2 defeat to Altmar-Parish-Williamstown last Wednesday, all of the Rebels’ runs coming in the bottom of the third, two of them driven home by Helaina Hale’s triple.
The Eagles managed single runs in the first and sixth innings, with Emma Morrell and Mollie Yard scoring them as Emily Bard got credit for a double and RBI.
But the Eagles turned things around Thursday and blanked Chittenango 5-0, with Alexis Delfavero pitching a gem as she held the Bears to four hits and struck out 12 without allowing a walk.
A two-run first inning was all J-E needed, but it tacked on single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh as Delfavero got three hits, with GabriellaBard earning two hits and two RBIs. Yard, Meghan Whalen and Ranait McGuire also had two-hit outings.
