A busy week of area high school boys tennis included some local rivalries and continued strong play from both teams and individuals.
It all started last Monday with Skaneateles taking on Marcellus at Austin Park, and the Lakers got the best of it, recording a 4-1 victory over the Mustangs.
Though Andrew Kammer dominated his 6-0, 6-0 singles match with Luke Lynn, Skaneateles countered with Sam Gadjo beating Chris Barbaro 6-2, 6-2 and Trevor Knupp defeating Tyler Guerrina 7-6, 6-0.
Both doubles points went to the Lakers, too, with Nate Fouts and Andrew Neumann blanking Andrew Grashof and Jackson Spanfelner 6-2, 6-0 as Chris Burgher and Jack Panasci won, 6-2, 6-1, over Joe Perleoni and David Stepkovich.
Skaneateles followed up by beating Onondaga 4-1 on Wednesday. Duncan Raddant lost, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1, to Jake Massaro, but Neumann rallied past Adam Wood 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 as Marcus McClanahan beat Jon Massaro 6-2, 6-2.
Fouts, paired with Ben Clymer, won in doubles over Michaela Germain and Paul Okhman 6-1, 6-1, with Sam Gadjo and J.P. Sorderberg getting past Sophia Featherstone and Lauren Moore 6-2, 6-0.
That same day, Marcellus won 4-1 over Phoenix, with Kammer and Guerrina rolling to singles wins and Barbaro beating Josh VanGorder 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.Grashof and Spanfelner rallied in doubles to beat Scott Barrington and Alex Olschewske 2-6, 6-0, 6-4.
Westhill had the best team record of any local side at 7-1, this after last Tuesday’s match, where it defeated Homer 3-2.
The Trojans entered the match at 7-2 overall, and the wet weather forced each of the five matches into a single-set race to eight games.
D.J. Caloia lost, 8-4, to Ben Herman, with Dan Ferrara falling to Spencer Rusnyiak 8-3, but Kyle Hagrman got Westhill a crucial singles point when he beat Adam Brown 8-1.
Then, in doubles, the Warriors won both matches with 8-0 shutouts, Tom Chaddock and Mike Ferrara beating Ryan Cough and Raymond Meng, Jackson Bradley and Ryan Rolince rolling past Tommy Britt and Sean Powers.
West Genesee began a busy week last Monday and, by packing its best players in doubles, swept all four matches there on the way to beating Cicero-North Syracuse 5-2.
Matt Mannara and James Plunkett blanked Jon Corl and Brandon Millias 6-0, 6-0, with Ryan Joyce and Max Mekker handling Wyatt Dupell and Ryan Hill 6-3, 6-4. The teams of David Puma-Michael White and Dan Good-Ben Paoli also had two-set victories.
And though Stefan Atanasov and Ty Lisi both lost their singles matches, Noah Ruston gave the Wildcats another crucial point when, in second singles, he beat the Northstars’ Edwin Hirsh 6-4, 6-3.
Two days later, WG met Baldwinsville, against whom it lost a 4-3 decision a week earlier, and by that same margin the Bees edged the Wildcats again.
Three of the four doubles matches went to WG as Mannara-Plunkett and Joyce-Mekker both won in straight sets, as did Good and Paoli, who topped Diego Aguirre and Colin Savage 6-3, 6-1.
Needing just one point in singles, the Wildcats could not gain it as Atanasov, Ruston and Lisi all lost in two sets, Lisi getting the closest in a 6-4, 6-3 defeat to Leonardo Vona.
Rebounding on Thursday, WG blanked Syracuse East 7-0, with Ruston, Joyce and Paoli dropping just one game in six sets of singles play. Doubles proved tougher as Atanasov and Mekker came back to beat Kyle Giardine and Devin Murphy-Stanley 4-6, 6-1, 6-0, while Sam Barth and Jonathan Welles outlasted Ben Ashby and Chris Edmunds 6-3, 6-7, 10-8.
