When each of the Cicero-North Syracuse track and field teams made their way to Wednesday’s Westhill Spring Break Invitational, it proved yet another showcase for boys Northstars senior Jeremiah Willis.
In ideal conditions, Willis won four events, starting with the 100-meter dash, where in 11.40 seconds he easily topped West Genesee’s Dan Gill (11.58) and Esisas Brumfield (11.60) for the top spot.
The 200-meter dash had Willis needing 23.31 seconds to hold off Brumfield (23.33) and Gill (23.36), while teammate Sam Nessel got fifth place in 23.82 seconds.
Moving to the long jump, Willis had a top attempt of 21 feet 8 ¼ inches, no one else breaking the 21-foot mark as Isaiah Wright was fifth with 19’7” and Carlton Garnes 10th. Then Willis went 43’ ¾” in the triple jump, beating the field by nearly two full feet.
Wright did win an event as he, along with Aidan Dietz and Joe Tschopp, combined to go 51.49 seconds in the 3×110 shuttle hurdles relay, just ahead of Clinton (52.22) and the field.
Ryan Dupra, in the high jump, cleared 6’3”, beaten only by the 6’4” from Hannibal’s Fenix Burger as Rich Paparo tied for eighth with 5’8”. Evan Breitbeck was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:05.17, with R.J. Davis sixth in the mile in 4:45.61.
Dietz, Nathan Poirier, R.J. Davis and Calvin Garnes were sixth in the 4×400 relay in 3:42.61, while Andrew Culver was sixth in the shot put, tossing it 41’3”, and was 10th in the discus with 97’1”. Poirier got fifth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:41.65.
The girls Northstars earned a top-three sweep in its version of the long jump, Julianna Hutt winning it with a leap of 16’7 ½” as Brooke Blaisdell was second with 16’ ½” and Lilly Capria was third with 15’10”.
In the girls triple jump, C-NS went 1-2 as Blaisdell won with a top attempt of 36’7 ¾”, chased by Sierra Davis, who was second with 36’3”. Hutt added a sixth-place finish in the 100 in 13.53 seconds. Blaisdell, Liliana Klemanski, Savannah Kuhr and Lexi Gaetz won the 3×100 shuttle hurdles in 50.87 seconds to Westhill’s 51.24.
Sarah Davis, paired with Allison Newton, Jamie Wagner and Hannah Boyle, won the 4×400 relay in 4:11.87, nearly three seconds ahead of runner-up Westhill (4:14.82), and Davis, on her own, won the 800 in 2:24.09 as Morgan Kingdeski was third in 2:30.57 and Wagner (2:31.28) gained fifth place. Newton was fourth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:51.04.
Klemanski, fifth in the triple jump (32’5 ½”), was third in the high jump, clearing 5’3” as Capria took fourth place with 5 feet. Gaetz got seventh place in in the triple jump with 32’1” Marissa Navarra ran to sixth in the 1,500-meter event in 5:15.41, with Maria Marullo eighth in 5:19.35.
