In anticipation of a big meet on Saturday against Frontier League powerhouse Watertown, the Liverpool boys swim team first had to navigate through last Tuesday’s meet at New Hartford.
This didn’t prove too stressful for the Warriors, who beat the Spartans 101-82 to improve to 6-0 on the season.
Liverpool started piling up points by going 1-2 in the 200-yard medley relay, with Griffin Merkling, Julien Brownlow, Jack Hyde and Brayden Catalina getting to the top spot in one minute, 56.74 seconds.
Hyde, in 2:28.25, was part of a top-three sweep in the 200 individual medley with Riad Latifagic (2:33.47) and Ismar Latifagic (2:35.96), and also won the 500 freestyle in 6:01.28.
Kyle Richardson, second in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.70, was victorious in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.32 as Brodie Powers, in 55.16 seconds, beat Ian Denny (59.80) in the 100 freestyle.
Caleb Netto made his way to first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.19, with Catalina third. Michael Piraino swam the 50 freestyle in 25.06 seconds as Richardson, Kline, Catalina and Josh Foley posted 1:41.62 to beat out the 1:41.70 from Piraino, Hyde, Brownlow and Powers.
Before it headed for the holiday break, Cicero-North Syracuse visited Baldwinsville last Monday night. Against the same Bees team that Liverpool defeated on Nov. 29, the Northstars could not match that success, taking a 50-42 loss.
Not until the 100 freestyle did C-NS win a race, Bruce Hepel taking that event in 56.99 seconds over B’ville’s Tristan Miranda (57.54). Then Hepel paired with John Harbaugh, Logan Petralia and Dom Bagozzi to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.07 to the Bees’ 1:41.13.
Petralia, in 24.02 seconds, was just behind B’ville’s Nick Schultz (23.90) in the 50 freestyle as Harbaugh was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.62. Connor Burke took second place in the 500 freestyle in 5:58.47.
In the 200 medley relay, Petralia, Harbaugh, Adam Rein and Seaver Schultz were second in 1:53.87 as Dillon Johnson joined Bagozzi, Petralia and Harbaugh to go 3:50.95 in the 400 freestyle relay.
Alex Hiltbrand led B’ville with first-place finishes in the 200 IM (2:09.58) and 100 backstroke, where he posted 58.64 seconds. Now C-NS is off, with its next meet not until Jan. 8, when it visits Mexico.
