The Chittenango and Cazenovia girls golf teams would go head-to-head last Wednesday afternoon as part of a three-team match with Marcellus at Cazenovia Country Club.
And the Bears would shoot 238 to the Lakers’ 253, though the Mustangs beat them both with 197 and had the two lowest individual rounds – a 42 by Mary Colella, and a 49 by Elise LaBombard.
Haley Walters and Shannon Koegel both shot 56 to lead Chittenango, while Cazenovia’s top round came from Sophie Clancy, who managed a 55.
Before that, Chittenango a 198-250 defeat to Skaneateles last Monday at Woodcrest. Koegel and Walters both shot 59, with Mykala Markolopsky adding a 66.
However, five Lakers golfers topped those efforts, with Jillian Barker, Addison Gremli and Jenna Fields putting up matching rounds of 48, ahead of Karah Blair (54) and Mackenzie Ward (57).
On Tuesday, the Bears met Skaneateles again, this time at Skaneateles Country Club and joined by Christian Brothers Academy. Chittenango shot 229, just behind the Brothers’ 221 as the Lakers beat them both with 195.
Meanwhile, Cazenovia dropped a 242-243 decision to Bishop Grimes. Clancy had a 54 and Julia Bauder managed a 57, but the Cobras’ Olivia Minor put up a 43 to top all individuals.
Both teams lost on Thursday, with Cazenovia dropping a 205-244 decision to Westhill and Chittenango running into Marcellus, who topped the Bears 208-277 behind a 43 by Mary Colella at Tuscarora, well clear of the 61 from Haley Walters.
Clancy got a 56 for the Lakers at Camillus Country Club, with three Westhill golfers ahead of her – Catherine Dadey (44), Madeline Jones (46) and Angela Vigliotti (55). Courtney Holt, with a 62, beat out Bauder and Margaret Kmetz, who both shot 63.
The Cazenovia boys golf team began a string of matches last Wednesday against Jordan-Elbridge at Cazenovia Country Club, with the Lakers prevailing 226-304 over the Eagles.
Alex Pezzi led the way, posting a 37 for nine holes. Alex Moesch shot a 41, with Ryan Modzeleski adding a 43. Only one J-E round broke the 60 mark, shot by Ben Sullivan, who finished with a 49.
But when it faced undefeated Marcellus on Friday, Cazenovia lost, 215-235, though Pezzi nearly had the low individual round as his 40 was one shot behind the Mustangs’ Shawn Colella. Modzeleski had a 45, with Moesch getting a 49 ahead of Ted Williams (55) and Jacob Wells (56).
