Kicking off the pivotal month of May, the Skaneateles track and field teams both took on Jordan-Elbridge last Wednesday afternoon.
The girls Lakers prevailed 99-42 over the Eagles as Lyda Buck cleared 8 feet in the pole vault and topped 4’6” in the high jump to win both events.
Mia Grasso went 1:00.5 to prevail in the 400-meter dash and claimed the 200-meter dash in 27 seconds flat to edge Maddie Peterson (27.1). Condon claimed the 3,000 in 12:10.8, while Emme Conan went 13.1 seconds in the 100 sprint to hold off J-E’s Ashlee Eaton (13.2) and win.
Brady Iles (16.9 seconds) beat Bella Capozza (18.2 seconds) to win the 100 hurdles, and added a 400 hurdles victory in 1:11.9. Conan, Grasso, Peterson and Eva Vitsaxaki claimed the 4×100 relay in 51.4 seconds as Peterson, Conan, Melissa Biver and Graeson Landsberg got first place in the 4×400 in 4:31 flat.
Emma Hall took the shot put, her throw of 25’ ½” just ahead of Edan Howard, who also finished second in the discus to Sarah Brennan’s winning 67’3” throw. Vitsaxaki claimed the long jump, going 14’9 ½” as Peterson was second in the triple jump.
The boys meet between Skaneateles and J-E saw the Lakers fall to the Eagles 79-46, this despite winning five individual races, starting with Malcolm going 15.8 seconds in the 110 hurdles.
Matt Leveroni won the 100 in 11.8 seconds, with Joe Norris going 4:53.1 to claim the mile. Jonathan Lincoln had a top time of 24.1 seconds in the 200 as Caleb Bender won the 3,200-meter run in 11:23.9. But J-E swept all the field events and relays and were led by Marion Quigley, who won the 800, long jump and high jump.
During Thursday’s East Syracuse Minoa Girls Invitational, Buck again competed in the pole vault, where she cleared 7’6” and took sixth place. South Jefferson’s Marlena Jacobs won that event by clearing 10’6”.
Other Lakers waited for Friday’s Brother Basilian Invitational at Christian Brothers Academy’s Alibrandi Stadium, where Brady Iles was second in the 100 hurdles in 17.40 seconds to Oneida’s Melina Ball (17.26). Condon was third in the 1,500 in 5:16.16.
In the boys meet at CBA, Malcolm, in 16.15 seconds, was second to Homer’s Paul Morse (16.04) in the 110 hurdles, while Nick Paciorek was fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.67. Tony DiRubbo, Connor Gell, Joe Norris and Caleb Bender were fourth in the 4×800 in 9:16.22.
