With the warmer weather early last week came a spurt of activity for the Baldwinsville boys tennis team, who didn’t waste that opportunity.
The Bees went up against Cicero-North Syracuse last Tuesday afternoon, and did not drop a set in any of the matches during a 7-0 shutout of the Northstars.
Antonio Marsallo got it going in singles by routing James Corl 6-1, 6-0, and by those same scores Alex Shaban got past Edwin Hirsh. It took a bit longer in third singles, but Nick Liccardello handled Ryan Hill 6-4, 6-1.
None of the doubles matches was close, either. B’ville’s Sam Damato and Anthony Pompo blanked Kyle Bulko and Evan Haberek 6-0, 6-0, with Hunter Dukat and Max Funicello rolling past Joe Bowen and Ryan Gallagher 6-1, 6-1.
It continued with Diego Aguirre and Alex Taylor handling Jon Corl and Brandon Millias 6-0, 6-3, and was completed by Jonanthan Oad and Jeremy Rappard, who claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Josh Matyasik and Ryan Sisco.
On Friday, B’ville went up against perennial league champion Fayetteville-Manlius and picked up some points, but not enough to topple the Hornets, who prevailed 5-2.
Both of those points came in doubles, where Dukat first paired with Eric Smith to beat Neil Khurana and Cary Qian 6-1, 6-1, with Dukat then joining Beckett Plumley to beat Andrew Li and Davin Woolridge 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Elsewhere in doubles, Pompo and Taylor fell to Dilan Judge and Rahul Reddy 6-3, 6-2, with Damato and Shaban taking a 6-2, 6-3 defeat to Rohan Dhawan and Joel Farrella. In the closest of the three singles matches, Marsallo lost, 6-2, 6-1 to F-M’s Riley Ma.
