Following a pair of season-opening defeats, the Manlius-Pebble Hill boys tennis team has rattled off three consecutive victories, able to fit in matches while others waited out the cold weather.
MPH met Bishop Grimes head-to-head last Tuesday afternoon, and not only did the Trojans shut out the Cobras 5-0, the trio of Dan Braverman, Charlie Mann and Dan Mezzalingua did not drop a game in any of their singles matches.
Braverman beat Harry Hu 6-0, 6-0, with Mann topping Jeff Wang and Mezzalingua handling Jason Zhang by those same scores.
Only one of the two doubles matches was contested, but in it MPH’s duo of Cam Ciotoli and Keerthi Martyn proved successful, earning a 6-2, 6-0 sweep over Aiden Keenan and Renny Breazale.
It proved a bit tougher for MPH in last Wednesday’s match against Chittenango, but the Trojans still topped the Bears 4-1.
Mezzalingua had another 6-0, 6-0 win, this one over Evan Edwards, as Braverman routed Matt Lanphear 6-0, 6-1 and Mann handled Zach Falkenburg 6-1, 6-0.
With Citoli and Martin taking a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Ben Cyr and Sean Austin, the Trojans salvaged a doubles split when J.J. Braverman and Jeff Bush claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Griffen and Nate Smith.
By that same 4-1 margin on Friday, MPH earned another victory, this one over the Skaneateles Lakers, just as East Syracuse Minoa took the court against Fulton and lost to the Red Raiders 7-0.
The Spartans had to forfeit one singles match, and the closest of them saw Kelvin Cheng take a 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Ryan Lalik. In a long third set, ESM’s doubles team of Devin Leterman and Jack Satterly lost, 13-11, to Ryan Barry and Steven Thompson after the first two sets were split.
