With a brief break in last week’s cold, snowy weather, the Cazenovia boys tennis team was able to add to its win total.
The Lakers rolled past Marcellus 5-0 last Wednesday afternoon, only scared in second doubles, where Griffin Monahan and Aiden Kalteski had to rally for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 victory over Justin Costa and Tyler Guerina.
But the rest of the match belonged to Cazenovia, especially in singles, where Nate Romig topped Andrew Kammer 6-2, 6-1 and Mitch Romig blanked Chris Barbaro 6-0, 6-0.
Liam Flannery, in third singles, got his own 6-0, 6-0 shutout, this one over Con Clarke, while in first doubles Teddy Coughlin and Dan Gavilondo handled Shawn Manke and Noah LaFaever 6-2, 6-1.
As this was going on, Chittenango, who lost to Cazenovia the week before, resumed its season against Manlius-Pebble Hill, and was only able to get a lone point in doubles during a 4-1 loss to the Trojans.
That came from the Bears’ duo of Ben Cyr and Sean Austin, who in straight sets defeated Cam Ciotoli and Keerthi Martyn 6-2, 6-4 as Griffen and Nate Smith lost, 6-2, 6-2, to J.J. Braverman and Jeff Bush.
Otherwise, Chittenango struggled in singles, seeing Matt Lanphear take a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Dan Braverman and Zach Falkenburg fall to Charlie Mann 6-1, 6-0. Evan Edwards had a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Dan Mezzalingua.
Both area tennis teams are off during the week of the school break, but will be quite busy once classes resumes April 30.
