Both of the Baldwinsville indoor track and field teams would flourish on Sunday during the Section III state qualifying meet at SRC Arena, winning events on the boys and girls sides.
As a result, a large contingent of Bees athletes will make their way to Staten Island’s Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on March 3 to take part in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships.
On the boys side, Kieran Sheridan was part of a pair of victories. On his own, Sheridan went one minute, 24.10 seconds in the 600-meter run to edge Faith Heritage’s Hans Matzal (1:24.30) by two-tenths of a second.
Then, in the 4×400 relay, B’ville easily won as Sheridan, joined by Greg Porceng, Michael Lawrence and Evan DaPrano, won in 3:36.56, with runner-up Jamesville-DeWitt (3:50.05) more than 13 seconds behind.
It was Adam Davis prevailing in the 1,000-meter run, his time of 2:41.35 just enough to hold off Homer’s Grant Stokoe (2:41.65) as Connor McManus finished fourth in 2:43.07.
Davis and McManus, paired with Ben Timmons and Sam Kellner, went 8:20.20 in the 4×800 relay, putting them in second place as Liverpool prevailed in 8:17.53.
Cameron Majchrzak advanced to the state meet by winning the shot put thanks to a top toss of 45 feet 3 inches, just ahead of Hannibal’s Hunter Donhauser, who threw it 43’1 ½” as Majchrzak also got fifth place (44’6”) in the weight throw. Nate Jaquint finished fifth in the high jump, clearing 5’10”.
