After the Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA boys swim team bested Fayetteville-Manlius 96-84 on Jan. 23, each side would find their own success as their regular seasons wound down.
J-D/CBA would host New Hartford last Tuesday night, and the last regular-season home meet for the Red Rams’ seniors proved quite successful as it beat the Spartans 94-84.
Chris Bushnell and Spencer Schultz each had the best times in two different races, starting with Bushnell, who needed one minute, 58.79 seconds to win the 200-yard butterfly and then swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.28, just ahead of Emanuel Ignacio’s 1:16.30 and a 1:17.17 from Mike Spizuoco.
As for Schultz, he went 23.65 seconds to pull away from New Hartford’s Nick Lemire (24.99) in the 50 freestyle, and then went to the longest race, the 500 freestyle, and won in 5:13.89.
Owen Farchione came within inches of his own double, pulling away to win the 100 freestyle in 53.68 seconds to Lemire’s 57.02, but in the 200 individual medley going 2:14.98 to fall to the Spartans’ Jacob Lester (2:14.97) by one-hundredth of a second.
Lucas Dekaney, with 260.65 points, got the better of Ryan Evans (241.95 points on the diving board. Nathan Chen, in 1:02.86, went 1-2 with Kaleel Boykins (1:06.61) in the 100 butterfly as Liam Kaplan won the 100 backstroke in 1:07.43.
Farchione, Bushnell, Conlan Rourke and Tom Sullivan won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.28, with Farchione joining Chen, Colby Porter and Michael Sizing to swim the 200 medley relay in 1:52.34. Rourke, Bushnell, Chen and Hayden Braun swam the 400 freestyle relay in 3:46.38.
With the win, J-D improved to 9-1-1, with F-M continuing to show its improvement that same night at Fulton, where the Hornets put together a 96-85 victory over the Red Raiders.
F-M moved in front when Michael Araujo, in 2:03.76, edged Richard Wan (2:03.79) in the 200 freestyle. More wins followed, including two by Tanner Eisenhut as he took the 200 IM in 2:08.87 and claimed the 100 freestyle in 52.42 seconds.
Tristan Wellner, in 1:03.05, was part of a top-three sweep with Lucas Wieres (1:04.86) and Quinn Smith (1:09.59) in the 100 butterfly, with Nate Montgomery winning the 50 freestyle in 24.23 seconds.
Miguel Aldana, in 5:40.92, beat out Jordan Krouse (5:48.99) in the 500 freestyle as Krouse also finished second in the 100 backstroke. Connor Gleasman (183.20 points) and Michael Magee (172.35 points) swept the top two diving spots.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Eisnehut, Araujo, Montgomery and Nico Foster finished in 1:38 flat, winning that race as Krause, Eisenhut, Wan and Araujo went 3:51.93 in the 400 freestyle relay.
