Merely half a point kept the Liverpool indoor track and field teams from sweeping both afternoon sessions of Saturday’s Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena – and it only figured that Cicero-North Syracuse was the beneficiary.
The boys Northstars had 125.5 points, and the Warriors 125 points, in that portion of the Kirschenheiter meet, while the Liverpool girls picked up 171 points, well clear of C-NS (120 points) in the runner-up spot.
Jeremiah Willis gave C-NS a win in the 55-meter dash in 6.52 seconds and Malcolm Christian was third in 6.89 seconds. Willis, Christian, Joe Williams and Ryan Williams roared to a win in the 4×200 relay in 1:35.15.
Ryan Williams, in 8.04 seconds, topped Liverpool’s Nazir Murray (8.45) in the 55-meter dash. In the long jump, Joe Williams went 20 feet 8 1/2 inches as Isaiah Wright (19’7 1/4″) made it a 1-2 C-NS finish.
Murray also got second place in the 300-meter dash in 38.66 seconds, with teammate Talmari Turner fourth (39.34 seconds) as Murray, Turner, Justin Chrisjohn and James Gaffney were second in the 4×200 in 1:41.02.
Calvin Garnes went 1:30.61 to finish second in the 600-meter run, with Frank Wright fifth in the 300.
Another key win came in the mile, where Nathan Poirier posted 4:42.14 to edge Central Square’s Gabe Chisari (4:43.83), with Michael McBride sixth. David Ware finished second in the 1,000-meter run in 2:41.19.
Earning plenty of its own wins, Liverpool had Spencer Ruediger edge Hannibal’s Ben Dennison by three-hundredths of a second, 10:16.81 to 10:16.84, in the 3,200-meter run as Nick Brancato finished fifth, just behind the Northstars’ Sam Barber in fourth place. Ruediger also finished fourth in the 600.
Chrisjohn, Eli Barbour, Conor Fahy and D.J. Rice won the 4×400 relay in 3:47.94, with C-NS sixth. Paul Dewan, who matched Wright’s 19’7 1/4″ in the long jump, prevailed in the triple jump by going 41’11 1/2″ to edge out Joe Williams, who went 40’10 3/4″ as Wright got fifth place.
Arthur Bittel, throwing the shot put 44’5 1/2″, gained second place, with C-NS’s Cameron Pisa seventh. Bittel also was second in the weight throw, heaving it 47’2 1/2″, and having Antwan Kelly (38′ 3/4″) finish fifth.
In the 4×800 relay, Liverpool had T.J. Praschunus, Cullen McLaughlin, Cam O’Connell and Nathan Reeves finished second in 8:40.05, with C-NS third in 8:47.70.
Praschunus was fifth and Reeves seventh in the 1,000. Gaffney was second in the pole vault, clearing 12’6″, and was sixth in the 55 hurdles as C-NS had Jason Hughes finish fourht in the pole vault annd sixth in the high jump.
Liverpool’s girls got going when Marissa Baskin had a winning long jump of 17’2″ to beat C-NS’s Sierra Davis (16’2 3/4″) in second place as the Warriors’ Meghan Milazzo was third with 15’8 1/2″.
Milazzo took her turn in the triple jump, winning with 32’3 1/4″, and moved from there to the high jump, where by clearing 5’2″ she went 1-2 with Amina Sinclair, who cleared 4’10”. C-NS had Lexi Gaetz finish third with 4’8″. Gaetz was fourth and Shannon Sisco sixth in the triple jump.
In the 55 hurdles, the Warriors’ Lauren Fradette, in 9.25 seconds, held off C-NS teammates Lexi Gaetz (9.41) and Savannah Kur (9.60) as Kali Hayes (9.70) got fourth place for the Northstars.
Baskin also was second in the 55 sprint in 7.54 seconds, where the Northstars had Victoria Dunn fourth (7.80) and Sierra Davis seventh. Anne Gullo was second in the 300 in 44.97 seconds.
Emily Neuner prevailed in the 3,000-meter run in 11:21.80, with Gabby McCarthy (11:36.66) in third place. Anne Gullo, Claudia Brown, Colleen Tifft and Claire Carlson took the 4×400 in 4:28.79 as C-NS had Marissa Bukowski, Delaney Stahrr, Isabelle Popoff and Alyson Thompson get second place in 4:33.76.
Trinity Gray had a second-place shot put toss of 31’11 1/2″ as Sarah LaValley (31’10 3/4″) was third. It was the same i in the weight throw, Gray going 34’8 1/2″ for second place and LaValley third with 34’1″. C-NS has Faith Keville sixth and Julie Phillips seventh.
Brown was fourth in the 600, where Emily Dembowski was eighth. Windsor Ardner was second (3:04.63) and Sydney Carlson fourth (3:14.35) in the 1,000.
On the C-NS side, Mia Pestle won the 1,500-meter run in 4:47.70, pulling away from Liverpool’s Rosie Petrella (5:24.50) in second place and the Northstars’ Maria Marullo sixth.
Then Pestle, Kate Putman, Allison Newton and Sarah Davis won the 4×800 in 10:16.39 as Ardner, Brown, Sydney Carlson and Claire Carlson were second in 10:37.26.
In the 4×200, the Northstars had Shayla Webb, Sierra Davis, Julianna Hutt and Victoria Dunn prevail in 1:53.69 over Liverpool, who had Gullo, Hayes, Baskin and Amina Sinclair second in 1:54.68.
Putman got third place in the 1,000 in 3:05.61 and Sarah Davis was fifth, while Annina Marullo was fourth in the 3,000. Amanda Reilly (45.21 seconds) and Ashlyn Slate were third and fifth, respectively, in the 300.
