The Cazenovia boys indoor track and field team had the best finish of any small school during the morning session of Saturday’s Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena.
With 38.83 points, the Lakers beat out Jordan-Elbridge (35 points) for fourth place overall. Large schools Baldwinsville, West Genesee and Fayetteville-Manlius filled the top three spots.
Cazenovia nearly prevailed in the 4×200 relay, where Justin Gagnon, James Paveclhak, Jacob Olkowski and Jake Scherrer went one minute, 40.84 seconds, beaten only by Baldwinsville’s winning 1:38.21. Collin Killliany was second in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, with only the Bees’ Jae Lee (11’6″) ahead of him.
Gagnon, in 8.58 seconds, was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles, just ahead of Olkowski (8.78 seconds) in fifth place. Pavelchak took sixth place in the 300-meter dash in 39.23 seconds and seventh place in the 55-meter dash in 7.04 seconds.
James McPherson got sixth place in the 3,200-meter run in 10:16.28. Cormac Race, Jack McDonald, Zach Wendel and Ryan Hughes made it to seventh place in the 4×400 relay in 4:09.30.
Dalton Sevier, clearing 5 feet 3 inches in the high jump, tied for fifth place, with Tanner Dydo (5 feet) sharing eighthh place. The Lakers were 10th in the 4×800 relay (10:53.44). Noah DeRochie got 12th place in the 1,000-meter run and Wendel was sixth in the 600-meter run. Olkowski got 12th place and Josh Maxwell was 13th in the shot put.
Chittenango competed in the afternoon session of the Kirschenheiter meet, where it earned 12 points on the girls side, including a 4×800 where McKenzie Dombroski, McKayla Capeling, Lailah Emad and Brooke Price finished fourth in 11:19.99.
Dombroski was sixth in the 3,000-meter run in 11:48.06, with Maddy Heller 10th. Dombroski. Capeling got to sixth place in the 1,000 in 3:24.93 as the Bears were ninth in the 4×400 in 5:08.45 and 11th in the 4×200.
Jada Sowich was eighth (6:06.85) and Kayla Mendez ninth (6:10.38) in the 1,500-meter run. Emily WIlson got 11th place in the weight throw and 15th place in the shot put.
