To some degree, the shine of the Liverpool boys swim team’s showdown with Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA that takes place this Wednesday was taken away when the Red Rams got tied by Mexico 93-93, its first blemish following a 6-0 start.
On that same night, Liverpool paid a visit to West Genesee, who possessed plenty of good swimmers, but lacked the depth of the Warriors, who cruised to a 98-86 victory over the Wildcats.
Liverpool led from the outset with a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Those top points came from the quartet of Griffin Merkling, Brandon Nguyen, Kyle Richardson and Dan Stapleton, who won in one minute, 49.02 seconds.
Early individual wins came from the duo of Lachlan Eicholzer and Wes Turverey as Eicholzer took the 200 individual medley in 2:22.15 and Turverey, in 25.27 seconds, held off Michael Piraino (25.58 seconds) in the 50 freestyle.
J.J. Ross made an appearance in the 500 freestyle, where he won in 5:11.40 as Griffin O’Neil was second in 5:15.25. Eicholzer was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.97, with Merkling second (52.90 seconds) and Caleb Netto third (53.83) in the 100 freestyle.
Curtis Merrick earned his title in the 100 backstroke, going 57.56 seconds to edge Tom Griffin, who was second in 58.24 seconds. Johannes Vorbach won the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.76 as Merrick swam the 200 freestyle in 1:58.04.
Though Liverpool took second to WG’s 1:40.44 in the 200 freestyle relay, the Warriors still had Nguyen, O’Neil, Piraino and Simon VanHoute post 1:42.38.
