Each of the Cicero-North Syracuse indoor track and field teams would gain victories in their respective afternoon sessions of last Saturday’s Jack Morse Kickoff Meet at SRC Arena.
The boys Northstars had 114 points, nearly double that of runner-up Central Square (58 points) as the C-NS girls earned 78 points to claim a narrow victory over Jamesville-DeWitt (73 points) and Fayetteville-Manlius (65 points).
Jeremiah Willis again paced the C-NS boys, claiming the 55-meter dash in 6.51 seconds and taking that team portion with Frank Wright in a combined 13.44 seconds. In the long jump, Willis flew 21 feet 9 inches as he and Isaiah Wright went 40’2” between them to win.
To cap his day, Willis paired with Wright, Malcolm Christian and Adron Pafford as C-NS rolled to a victory in the 4×200 relay in 1:36.51, more than two seconds ahead of runner-up Henninger (1:38.81).
Joe Williams, with his 55-meter hurdles time of 7.69 seconds, won there as he and Jason Hughes took the team event in 16.47 seconds, nearly two seconds clear of J-D (18.40 seconds) in second place. Williams also won the triple jump by going 40’3” as he and Jacob Messie were second (75’10 ¼”) to Central Square (76’10”) in the team portion.
Mike Wentling-Raymie and Andrew Delore teamed up to win the shot put, their throws adding up to 76’9 ¾”, as Delore and Messie were second in the weight throw with 70’1 ½” to Westhill’s 70’10”.
Jason Hughes and Ted Sanders won the high jump, teaming to clear 10’9”, one inch ahead of F-M’s 10’8” as Hughes cleared 9’6” in the pole vault for fourth-place points.
Also, C-NS cleaned up at various distances, ranging all the way to the 4×800 relay as Sam Barber, David Ware, Michael McBride and Nathan Poirier paired up to go 8:31.95 to hold off Central Square (8:34.80) for the top spot.
Ware then joined R.J. Davis, Lucas Sharron and John Perperian as the Northstars needed 19:21.51 with its four times in the mile relay to hold off F-M (19:53.77) for the top spot.
In the distance medley relay, the Northstars had Poirier, Ted Sanders, Joe Williams and Ryan Williams get second place in 3:54.19 to J-D’s 3:50.56. C-NS also was fourth in the 4×400 relay in 3:53.96
Moving to the girls meet, C-NS won right away on the track as Sarah Davis, Mia Pestle, Annina Marullo and Emily Dembowski paired to win the 4×800 relay in 9:59.82, nearly half a minute ahead of the field.
In the long jump, Victoria Dunn and Julianna Hutt won, their leaps of 28’7 ¼” just ahead of J-D’s 28’2 ¾”. By herself, Shayla Webb got sixth-place points in the triple jump and won the individual event by going 35’11 ½”.
Pestle, Davis, Ashlyn Slate and Marissa Bukowski were second in the distance medley in 4:33.15. This came after Marullo, Dembowski, Kate Putnam and Allison Newman were second in the 1,500-meter relay in 21:18.63 behind F-M’s 20:25.58.
Webb and Savannah Kurr were second (19.00 seconds) to J-D (18.52 seconds) in the 55 hurdles, with Sierra Davis and Victoria Dunn fourth in the 55 sprint in 16.12 seconds.
Dunn, Mackenzie Mahoney, Juilanna Hutt and Amanda Reilly got third place in the 4×200 relay in 1:55.62. Reilly, Bukowski, Ashlyn Slate and Isabelle Popoff were third in the 4×400 in 4:29.32.
Julie Phillips and Shelby Varnum had combined throws of 50’9” in the shot put to take third place, with Phillips and Faith Keville third in the weight throw with 49’1 ½”. The Northstars were also seventh in the high jump as Lexi Gaetz cleared 4’8”.
