In the first full week of December, the Solvay bowling teams got underway, using a seven-point system in their matches, all of which are held at Strike-N-Spare Lanes in Mattydale.
The opener last Monday saw the girls Bearcats defeat Homer 5-2, led by Jessica Birdslow, whose 234 game led to a 576 series.
Also for Solvay, Anastasia LaFlair had a 400 series, with Rebecca Ducey earning a 359 series and Caitlin McCann getting a 345 series. Sam Button paced the Trojans with a three-game total of 407.
Bowling again two days later, Solvay shut out Chittenango7-0, with Birdslow remaining consistent as her 570 series featured a 201 high game.
Offering some help, McCann had a 419 series and 164 game, with LaFlair contributing a 387 series and Rebecca Ducey getting a 377 series.
In that same match, the boys Bearcats beat the Bears in another 7-0 decision, as Denis Mujcic earned a 457 series and 178 high game. Zach Mashaw had a 407 series and Trent McLaughlin contributed a 404 series.
West Genesee bowled on Tuesday against Central Square at Green Acres. It was close in the boys match, but the Wildcats fell to the Redhawks 2-1.
Ben Conroy shot a 233 game during his 563 series, aided by Richard Wituszynski and his 492 set. Still, Central Square won with a 608 series from Jacob Painter and a 545 set from Dimitri Queior.
The girls match had WG also fall to Central Square by that same 2-1 margin. Emily Shields shot a 203 game for the Wildcats on her way to a 472 series as Gina Neri gained a three-game total of 416. Danni Moran (482 series) and Aleah Stoutenger (434 series) paced the Redhawks.
WG faced Auburn on Thursday afternoon at Solvay Recreation Alley, and the boys Wildcats got involved in yet another 2-1 match, but this time was triumphant over the Maroons.
Wituszynski had a 530 series and 226 high game, with Conroy getting a 512 series and Jon Zollo contributing a 505 set. That helped overcome the 609 series from Auburn’s T.J. O’Donnell, which led all individuals.
Like it did against Cortland, the WG girls lost by a 2-1 margin, with Neri leading her side, posting a 427 series. Lux, with a 394 series, was just ahead of Katie Drogo (390 series) and Kaley Moore (385 series) as Kaylee Hodson (482 series) and Lily Snyder (480 series) paced Auburn.
