When the Liverpool girls volleyball team went up against Baldwinsville head-to-head twice this fall, it took just one set from the Bees.
At least the Warriors get a third opportunity in next Tuesday night’s Section III Class AA championship match at Cicero-North Syracuse, this following a three-set sweep of Fayetteville-Manlius in last Wednesday’s semifinal match.
Liverpool was quite aware of the Hornets’ skills, having survived a five-set battle with them Oct. 10. Three weeks later, the well-rested Warriors had a more emphatic start, winning the first two sets by 25-16 and 25-15 margins.
F-M did push the third set well beyond the wire, but Liverpool still won it, 30-28, and completed the sweep, having seen Sydney Caviness earn 12 assists and Sophie Vangelov earn 11 assists as Ashley Teixeira amassed 17 digs, to go with five assists.
Madison Lapoint paced Liverpool by getting 10 kills, adding five digs. Leahana Keeling, in addition to her six kills, gained four aces and nine digs as Toria Betelak got five kills and four blocks.
Alicia Nash earned four kills and three aces as Hayley Feldt finished with three kills and three blocks. F-M, in defeat, got 13 kills from Saara Vahtola, 11 kills from Paige Hulbert and 28 assists from Erianna Madill as Rachel Quilty-Koval produced 15 digs.
At that same sectional volleyball final doubleheader, Cicero-North Syracuse’s boys volleyball team seeks the Division I title in a rematch of the 2016 title game against Baldwinsville, who as the no. 3 seed defeated no. 2 seed F-M in four sets Thursday to advance to the finals.
