For at least one round, the draw went in favor of Baldwinsville girls tennis player Brooke Tudor during last Tuesday’s Section III state qualifying tournament at Drumlins.
Three singles spots in this weekend’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association tournament in Latham were on the line, and Tudor needed to win three matches in order to get there.
In the first round, Tudor opposed Oneida’s Sydney Lusher. The match went back and forth, with plenty of lead changes, yet it was Tudor coming up with the key points in both sets to win them by 7-5 margins.
The only bad part of this win was that it put Tudor into the quarterfinals against the top seed, New Hartford’s Sarah Corasanti, who reached thes state tournament’s round of 16 a year and is a four-time Section III Division II champion.
Corasanti proved far too tough, dropping just one game as Tudor took a 6-1, 6-0 defeat, with Corasanti going on to win the tournament and make a second straight state tournament appearance, joined by CBA’s Rena Steele and Gieselle Vlassis.
On the doubles side, two teams B’ville was quite familiar with reached the tournament as Katerina Atallah-Maggie Bonomo (Fayetteville-Manlius) and Mikayla Mannara-Katie Viau (West Genesee) were joined by Oneida’s Brianna Laureti and Lauren Skibitski.
