A regular-season OHSL Liberty National division title was a good way for the Skaneateles boys golf team’s season to end, regardless of what followed.
Making the short trip to Marcellus Golf Club, the Lakers took third out of six teams in Tuesday’s Section III Class B/C/D Tournament. Five Skaneateles golfers combined to shoot 457, just behind runner-up CBA (442), but well back of Westhill, who won with 408.
From an individual standpoint, only the top 11 finishers, plus ties, would advance to May’s sectional state qualifier at Seven Oaks.
Ty Jones reached that mark, his 86 putting Jones in a tie for 10th place with David Bleskoski (Westhill), Ron Marsden (Mexico) and R.J. Shaver (LaFayette), all of them making the cut on the number.
Michael Murphy got close to that number, finishing with an 88 for the Lakers’ second-best round. Kenny Peterson had a 90, with Ben Spinelli adding a 96, one shot ahead of Tyson DiRubbo’s 97 as Jack Canty finished with a 106.
Westhill’s Josh Marshall won with a five-over-par 77, two shots ahead of teammate Sean Dadey. Not only did the Warriors win the team title, it sent all six of its top golfers – Marshall, Dadey, Bleskoski, Tim Alcaro, Anthony Maglisco and Nick Sauro – to the state qualifier.
Jones joins all of them in making it to Seven Oaks, along with Bleskoski, Marsden, Shaver, Wyatt Brown (Tully) and CBA teammates David Gross and Mike Santaro.
