In one high-profile cross country meet, both of Baldiwnsville’s state-ranked sides had to deal with Fayetteville-Manlius and Liverpool, quite a follow-up to the Bees’ own invitational meet staged on Sept. 23.
For the boys Bees, who had moved to no. 9 in the last state Class A rankings, it wasn’t difficult subduing the Warriors 15-48, but the state no. 1-ranked Hornets proved too tough, winning 15-46 in large measure due to a top-six sweep.
By the time Adam Davis finished in 16 minutes, 54 seconds, F-M had already seen Ben Otis and Geoff Howles go 1-2, each finishing in 16:03 ahead of Sam Otis and Peyton Geehrer (both in 16:21), with Jack Duncanson fifth in 16:23 and Matt Tripp sixth in 16:35.
Right behind Davis, the Bees’ Garrett Vannatta made it to eighth place in exactly 17 minutes. Ben Timmons ran well, too, claiming ninth place in 17:04, while Kieran Sheridan took 10th place in 17:17.
Moving to the girls side, B’ville, with the no. 13 state ranking, had to deal with top-ranked F-M and no. 3-ranked Liverpool, falling in a narrow 26-31 decision to the Warriors while losing to the Hornets 15-49.
Justus Holden-Betts, fresh off her B’ville Invitational race win, finished in 19:04 on the F-M course, and still had six Hornets ahead of her, led by Sophia Ryan (17:45), Claire Walters (18:01) and Phoebe White (18:06). Madison Neuner led Liverpool, finishing fourth in 18:44.
Each of the B’ville sides will take part this Saturday in the Auburn Invitational.
