Part of what makes the Westhill boys golf team’s undefeated run so impressive is that, every time it ran up against a quality opponent, it only seemed to get better.
That certainly was the case in the two matches the Warriors had against Christian Brothers Academy, including last Monday’s clash at Drumlins where, again, scores were low and Westhill handled the Brothers 182-209.
They had met Aug. 25 at Camillus Country Club, with Westhll prevailing 204-232. A month of matches hadn’t changed too much, except that the scores were lower on both sides.
Sean Dadey again went under part, finishing with a 33 for nine holes. Anthony Maglisco and David Bleskoski both shot 35, with Josh Marshall getting a 38 to match the low CBA round from David Gross,
What’s more, Tim Alcaro’s 39 beat the other Brothers golfers, whose group included Jack Lester, who had a 40 ahead of Mike Santoro (42), Chris Bushnell (44) and Dan Angelo, who had a 45.
This followed a 193-245 win over LaFayette where Marshall led the way with a 36, with Maglisco getting a 37 and Dadey earning a 38. Bleskoski, with a 40, beat out the Lancers’ low round of 41 by Thomas Long as Alcaro put together a 42.
West Genesee was back in action last Monday, beating Cicero-North Syracuse’s Green team 201-216 at Westvale to avenge an earlier defeat to the Northstars. Connor Barry, with a 39, was the only player on either side to break40.
For C-NS Green, Liam Mussi had a 40, just ahead of Pat Cuddy (41), Brian Pellegrino (42) and Cullen Scott (43), but the fifth Northstars golfer, Austin Alberici, could only manage a 50, so the Wildcats stayed in front thanks to a 41 from Lucius Allen, 43s from Dan Benetti and Will Good, plus a 48 from Kevin McDermott.
Then on Thursday, against the combined Syracuse city team, WG prevailed 185-218 at Marcellus Country Club as Allen and Nick Bove both shot one-under-par 35, for Allen the best round of the season. Jimmy LaValle added a 38, one ahead of Syracuse’s low individual, Jon Kinane.
WG finishes the regular season this week with matches against Fayetteville-Manlius and C-NS’s Blue team.
